The Role
Description
Dealer Audit plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of GM Dealer operations and providing assurances for the funding intended to drive strategic market initiatives and fulfill our warranty obligations. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager to lead our US Dealer Sales Audit function. This individual will be a proven leader responsible for overseeing end-to-end sales audits, ensuring consistent application of audit methodology, delivering clear, actionable findings and developing talent.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, operational excellence, and the ability to foster positive relationships and team cohesion across Dealer Audit, GMAS and key stakeholders. They will embody the principles of strategic thinking, including anticipating challenges, interpreting complex data, being decisive, aligning stakeholders, and continuously learning and adapting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance and support to the Lead Auditor in the planning and scoping of individual audits, ensuring coverage of key risks, programs, and entities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager - US Dealer Audit Risks, Insights & Operations to ensure your audit work aligns with the identified risks and audit plan.
  • Develop and maintain audit methodologies, policies, and procedures specific to US dealer sales audits, ensuring consistency and rigor across engagements.
  • Drive a culture of innovation through exploration and utilization of advanced tools and technologies to elevate work.
  • Ensure audit projects address GM and GMAS key strategic and business objectives based on a strong understanding of relevant business aspects, risks, potential fraud, performance requirements, and control processes and systems.
  • Review and approve audit workpapers for accuracy, adequate testing coverage, and appropriate documentation that supports conclusions and issues.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders on all relevant aspects of the audit, including but not limited to scope, workpapers, communications, and issue resolution to ensure appropriate privilege and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, as well as alignment with GMAS methodology, systems and protocols.
  • Oversee the Quality Assurance process for US Sales Audit, including periodic file reviews, methodology adherence, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Design and deliver training programs for auditors, including methodology, systems, programs, and soft skills to elevate quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with the Dealer Audit leadership team to align audit practices with organizational goals and evolving risk priorities.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, audit best practices, and translate insights into enhancements in methodology and execution.
  • Oversee the development of audit reports ensuring they communicate key findings, root causes, and action plans effectively to business units, Zone Managers, Regional Directors, and, when necessary, VPs and other senior leaders.
  • Serve as the primary contact for field team leadership during and after the audit, ensuring expectations are clear, issues are understood, and follow-up is coordinated.
  • Review and approve team spending and travel, ensuring alignment with budget, policy, and value delivery.
  • Monitor and forecast the annual team budget, providing timely visibility to leadership and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Support the Audit Director's meetings with stakeholders, including preparation of materials, data, and talking points that reflect current risks, themes, and outcomes.
  • Track open issues and dealer feedback, ensuring timely completion of action plans and incorporating lessons learned into future audits and guidance.
  • Develop clear, well-supported responses to dealer feedback, in partnership with relevant business stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with business partners, field leadership, and other GM Audit Services lines, serving as a trusted advisor on dealer sales risk and controls.
  • Effectively follow the leadership cycle of Plan, Manage, Develop, Rate & Reward, ensuring clarity of expectations, accountability, and recognition.
  • Develop talent for growth within GMAS and beyond, including coaching, feedback, and development plans.
  • Foster relationships that build a strong bench of interest in Dealer Audit, including outreach, mentoring, and thoughtful onboarding.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  • 10+ years of audit, consulting, or manufacturer-side dealership operations experience (e.g., GM or other OEMs), with a strong focus on sales, incentives, or dealer operations.
  • Excellent presentation skills including the ability to tailor messaging and visual presentations to dealers, field leaders, and senior executives.
  • Leadership experience (people or project) with a demonstrated ability to provide clarity amid ambiguity, make decisions, and effectively develop talent.
  • Strong understanding of dealer sales processes, programs, and controls, including fraud risks, incentive program design, and dealer financials.
  • Proven ability to apply audit methodologies from planning and scoping through reporting and issue validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex data and leverage analytics to inform scoping, testing, and insights.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and concurrent audits, balancing quality, timeliness, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Record of upskilling investments for yourself and your team
  • High integrity, intellectual curiosity, and ability to thrive in ambiguity, with a track record of sound judgment and escalation when appropriate.

Preferred Experiences:
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Detroit, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
