JOB PURPOSE
Manager, Technology Infrastructure -Unix & Storage Systems Administrator (Power/AIX/Linux/Cloud) is responsible for designing, installing, configuring, documenting, implementing, and supporting all Cloud and UNIX/Linux systems for production, test, and development environments with a strong focus on AIX IBM machines.
This position requires the installation of patches and fixes, problem analysis, documentation, root-cause analysis, and creation of incident reports: troubleshooting, problem resolution, maintenance, and level 2 support.
Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing procedures for Information lifecycle management, Virtualization strategy, and tools to manage performance, availability, and capacity.
JOB CONTEXT
Availability management –Ensure 99.9% minimum application/information services availability via 99.9% availability of Information systems components (Servers and platforms) and 100% data availability.
Performance management - Ensure optimal performance of all Cloud, Unix and Storage systems.
IT Governance - Compliance with policies, procedures and SLAs defined by the Service management team for handling changes, incidents, and Problems in the production environment.
Capacity management - Ensure adequate capacity on backend system infrastructure to meet business growth/needs.
Business continuity management –Guaranteed zero data loss in a disaster.
Customer Satisfaction - Ensure that all customers of the Group are well served and satisfied with the services delivered by the information infrastructure team.
Project Effectiveness - Successful project delivery adhering to business deadlines and technical standards.
Ensure that a world-class set of appropriate standards, Processes and procedures are defined, approved, and adopted for all Cloud, Unix/Linux and Storage-based business solutions.
Consolidate servers, storage and database systems as defined in the IT strategy.
Reporting - Timeliness, Accuracy, and relevance
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, configures, administers, tunes and optimizes complex systems and platforms (Cloud, Unix/Linux, Storage) and related components to achieve high availability and performance.
Performs platform-specific technical tasks, including operating system upgrades, installation, and
Configuration of various software packages, installation of patches and fixes.
Performs detailed troubleshooting for complex operational issues.
Develops, configures, and maintains user/group accounts, process improvement procedures, scripting, task automation, system monitoring, file system management, and disaster recovery for the organization's UNIX infrastructure.
Performs tasks relating to Power HA and other replication and business continuity products, including patching, health checks, audit review and repair, configuration modifications, and role swap/switch processing.
Provides technical consultation and guidance on complex projects with peers, management, and internal customers; may act as the technical lead for new IT projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB PROFILE
1. Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems or a related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
• Certification(s) in related ICT specializations – e.g. AIX, ITIL, LINUX, OCP, IBM Certified, AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes Certified Administrator, RedHat Certified Expert or other Enterprise Linux certification.
• Master’s degree in computer science or information systems or a related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
2. Experience
• Minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience in Unix/Linux Systems Administration within large-scale, mission-critical, 24x7 enterprise environments.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience administering IBM AIX, Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), and enterprise storage platforms in highly available production environments.
• Proven experience leading infrastructure initiatives involving system upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, performance optimisation, and disaster recovery.
• Extensive experience supporting and administering IBM Power Systems, including Hardware Management Console (HMC), LPAR configuration, virtualisation technologies, and PowerVM environments.
• Strong expertise in IBM AIX administration, including system tuning, patch management, security hardening, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Advanced knowledge of enterprise storage technologies, including IBM and Hitachi storage platforms, SAN administration, replication technologies, storage performance tuning, and capacity management.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and supporting high availability and business continuity solutions, including IBM PowerHA and disaster recovery frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and IBM Cloud, including hybrid cloud deployments and cloud migration projects.
• Strong experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience implementing infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, or equivalent automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, load balancing, DNS, and security principles.
• Proven ability to lead technical troubleshooting activities, mentor junior administrators, and provide Level 3 support for critical incidents.
• Demonstrated experience developing operational procedures, technical standards, architecture documentation, and executive-level reports.
• Strong project delivery experience with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining service availability and operational excellence.
