As a key member of Western Union’s Technology team, the Technology Governance Manager is responsible for driving the successful delivery of global IT strategic initiatives with cross-functional impact across the organization. This role plays a critical part in strengthening project management practices, aligning PMO standards, and ensuring the effective execution of technology programs. The position partners with global stakeholders, manages project portfolios, and leads high-performing teams to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that support business objectives.
Role Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the end-to-end delivery of multiple projects and large-scale programs, ensuring effective management of scope, timelines, budgets, risks, and issues
Drive the evolution and standardization of PMO processes, tools, and governance frameworks to improve project delivery and alignment with enterprise standards
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (onshore and offshore) to ensure successful execution of strategic IT initiatives and alignment with business priorities
Provide leadership and guidance to project managers, coaching teams on best practices across project lifecycle disciplines (Agile, Waterfall, QA, solution delivery)
Manage project portfolio planning and execution, including resource allocation, prioritization, financial tracking, and status reporting to executive leadership
Monitor project performance through KPIs, metrics, and reporting, providing regular updates on progress, risks, and financials
Proactively identify and remove project impediments, implement solutions to challenges, and escalate critical issues when necessary
Develop and manage sourcing strategies, including internal capacity planning and third-party/vendor partnerships, to meet delivery and cost objectives
Build, lead, and mentor high-performing teams, while driving talent development, engagement, and retention initiatives aligned with organizational goals
Role Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field; PMP and/or CSM certifications preferred
5+ years of experience in project/program management, leading complex technology initiatives within structured governance frameworks
Proven experience in financial services, payments, or banking industries
Strong expertise in project portfolio management (PPM) tools (e.g., Project Server, Clarity, Clarizen, Workfront) and reporting/metrics
Demonstrated experience managing global, remote, and geographically distributed teams, including onshore/offshore delivery models
Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid models)
Experience managing vendor relationships and third-party strategic partnerships
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complexity and drive results
Highly self-motivated with excellent prioritization, multitasking, and stakeholder management skills, combined with a strong customer-centric mindset
Work Shift
