Overview
Mastercard is seeking a Manager, Technology Account Management (TAM) to support customers across Southern Africa. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to customers, providing strategic, operational, and technical guidance to support the adoption, optimisation, and growth of Mastercard products and services.
The TAM will work closely with customers, internal teams, technology partners, regulators, and industry stakeholders to drive business growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong payments expertise, customer relationship management skills, and the ability to lead complex initiatives from concept through execution.
In Southern Africa, the role also includes engagement with industry and regulatory bodies, including the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA), supporting market initiatives, operational resilience programmes, regulatory compliance activities, and payment ecosystem modernisation efforts.
Role
Customer & Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, processors, technology partners, and key stakeholders.
Act as a trusted advisor for operational, technical, and strategic matters.
Understand customer priorities and align Mastercard solutions to support business objectives.
Advocate customer requirements internally and ensure timely resolution of issues and escalations.
Technology, Operations & Delivery
Provide consultative expertise on Mastercard products, services, mandates, and technology capabilities.
Support customers through solution design, implementation, optimisation, and ongoing service operations.
Monitor strategic projects and initiatives, identifying risks and coordinating resolution activities across internal teams.
Guide customers on best practices relating to authorisation, clearing, settlement, fraud, risk management, and operational performance.
Support customers in adopting Mastercard enhancements, mandates, and new technologies.
Business Development & Strategic Engagement
Support account teams in identifying growth opportunities and increasing product adoption.
Participate in account planning and contribute to customer business and technology strategies.
Leverage market, operational, and technology expertise to support new initiatives and innovation opportunities.
Foster strong relationships with customer executives and decision-makers to support long-term business growth.
Regulatory & Industry Engagement
Represent Mastercard in engagements with regulators, industry bodies, and payment ecosystem stakeholders where required.
Support initiatives involving SARB, PASA, and other relevant industry forums.
Coordinate customer readiness for regulatory, industry, and Mastercard mandates.
Support incident management, operational resilience initiatives, business continuity activities, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Provide guidance on emerging regulatory developments, market infrastructure changes, and payment system requirements.
Collaboration & Enablement
Partner with Product, Customer Solutions, Delivery, Franchise, Regulatory Affairs, and Support teams to deliver seamless customer experiences.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and promote operational best practices.
Deliver customer training, Mastercard Academy content, and technology review sessions.
Provide Voice of Customer feedback to support product, service, and process improvements.
All About You
Strong knowledge of payments, banking operations, and financial technology.
Experience in customer-facing roles managing complex operational and technology relationships.
Understanding of card issuing, acquiring, processing, authorisation, clearing, settlement, and fraud management.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-focused solutions.
Experience influencing and working effectively across multiple functions and organisational levels.
Knowledge of payment system regulation, operational resilience, and industry governance frameworks is advantageous.
Experience engaging with regulators, payment associations, industry working groups, or market infrastructure stakeholders is beneficial.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience
Proven experience within payments, banking, financial services, or financial technology.
Strong understanding of payment systems, market trends, and customer operations.
Experience leading customer engagements, driving strategic initiatives, and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
Exposure to regulatory, compliance, operational resilience, or industry-driven programmes is preferred.
