Position Summary:
As the Technical Advertising Manager (TAM), you will play a critical role in driving strategic product and technical initiatives across the Hearst News advertising technology ecosystem. Reporting to the Director, Technical Ad Management, this role will support advertising technology operations and innovation across Hearst News, including Hearst Television and Hearst Newspapers, ensuring alignment of platform strategy, product development, and monetization opportunities across the broader organization.
The TAM will serve as a bridge between business stakeholders, operations, product, engineering, and external technology partners to identify opportunities, define requirements, and execute technical solutions that improve operational efficiency, revenue performance, and user experience. This role will be responsible for helping shape the roadmap for programmatic advertising products and integrations, supporting strategic initiatives such as identity frameworks, privacy-safe advertising solutions, clean room technologies, and emerging ad tech capabilities.
Success in this role requires strong technical acumen, product management discipline, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Product & Technical Strategy:
- Partner with the Director, Technical Ad Management to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for advertising technology, programmatic products, and platform integrations across Hearst Television and Hearst Newspapers.
- Gather, prioritize, and translate business requirements into technical product specifications and implementation plans.
- Evaluate emerging ad tech solutions, identity frameworks, privacy technologies, and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and revenue growth.
- Define success metrics, KPIs, and testing methodologies to measure product effectiveness and business impact.
- Lead A/B testing initiatives by developing data-driven hypotheses and partnering with stakeholders to validate outcomes.
- Manage the lifecycle of ad tech products and integrations from ideation through deployment and optimization.
- Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Serve as a primary technical resource for programmatic integrations and advertising technology implementations across web, mobile app, and Connected TV (CTV) environments.
- Collaborate with engineering, ad operations, data, and vendor partners to troubleshoot platform issues and improve system performance across digital, app, and streaming video properties.
- Guide implementation and optimization of advertising technology platforms, including Google Ad Manager (GAM), Prebid, Amazon TAM, SSPs, DSPs, and OpenRTB integrations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and privacy regulations, including IAB frameworks, GDPR, CCPA, and emerging privacy-safe solutions.
- Use technical tools such as Charles Proxy, Chrome DevTools, and GAM Query Builder to investigate delivery, reporting, monetization, and yield optimization opportunities.
- Use tools like Charles Proxy, Chrome DevTools, and GAM Query Builder to analyze bid requests, discrepancies, and creative rendering issues.
- Product Growth & Optimization:
- Lead implementation of new advertising products, capabilities, and monetization solutions across Hearst News properties.
- Develop business cases, requirements documentation, process flows, and technical specifications to support product initiatives.
- Partner with analytics teams to evaluate product performance and identify opportunities for optimization and revenue enhancement.
- Create and maintain documentation, operational playbooks, and training materials to support adoption and scalability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Work closely with the Director, Technical Ad Management to align product strategy, prioritization, and execution across Television and Newspaper business units.
- Partner with Strategy, Operations, Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to identify opportunities that support programmatic direct and audience-based revenue growth.
- Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities, timelines, and business outcomes.
- Lead strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that improve platform capabilities, operational efficiency, and revenue performance.
- Build and maintain relationships with external technology vendors and industry partners to support product innovation and strategic growth.

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York State. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York State, is $105,000 - $115,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York State, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
