Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Responsible for managing the Automation Team, providing leadership in the field of systems and automation engineering. 

  • Directing and planning development of objectives, long range plans, standards of service, and performance of process automation teams and their respective programs across multiple sites.

  • Direct the process automation services, including colleagues and contract services, for multi-faceted, overly complex, multi-shift manufacturing operations in compliance with company and corporate policies.

  • Provide planning, estimating and scheduling services required for process automation systems to be implemented.

  • Work with the capital project engineering team to provide support for various equipment and facilities projects for new and/or renovation, including design, construction, commissioning, and operations.

  • Manage the Automation Compliance function and the Automation Life Cycle/ IT QMS activities according to the established procedures, ensuring:

    • Compliance with Good Engineering Practices

    • Enforcement of current automation/computerized systems life cycle requirements

    • Review and approval of automation/computerized systems related documentation

    • Review and approval of Change Proposals & Change Controls

    • Review and approval CAPAs & Event Investigations

    • Review and approval the Automation Master Plan

    • Audits support (Internal, External, Regulatory)

  • Mentor and guide staff and serve as a technical guide whenever necessary.

    • Develop and apply advanced theories, methods and research techniques to the investigation and solution of complex technical problems.

    • Provide vision for the automation engineering function and acts as a change agent for technical innovation; performs risk-reward analysis and scenario planning. Recommend creative solutions to ensure projects are completed swiftly.

    • Regarded as a leader in the field of automation and process control systems by both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Responsible for the administration of the Automation group following the established policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Develop and/or evaluate methods and procedures for improving site operations (manufacturing, packaging, and utilities).

  • Establish the Automation goals and give directions to consultants and direct report personnel to align with departmental and site goals and/or objectives.

  • Develop, revise and/or approve area operational procedures and automation documents.

  • Responsible for Area Cost/Budget Control.

  • Participate on Site Cost Improvement Initiatives (e.g., Reliability/Vulnerability program)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Administration is desirable.  

 

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of a 15 years of experience in operations, maintenance, or other Engineering fields with a proven managerial or supervisory track record.

  • Knowledge of:

    • FDA, GMP, OSHA regulations applicable to the Pharmaceutical Industry.

    • Automation and maintenance, contract management, cost budgeting and control.

  • Licenses and Certifications

    • Engineering License preferred.
