About Dash and the role
Dash Technologies Inc. is a Dublin, Ohio–based IT staffing and software engineering firm. We place W-2 and 1099 consultants with state, local, education and federal government clients across 28+ states through MSP/VMS partnerships, and we are expanding fast into AI services.
This hands-on CPA role prepares and files every federal, state and local tax and payroll return Dash makes – the person does the work, not supervises it. Each new placement in a new state creates new withholding, unemployment and sometimes local tax obligations, and every public-sector contract depends on Dash staying in good tax standing. The manager keeps Dash filed, paid, registered and audit-ready in every jurisdiction where we operate, with zero penalties and no contract delays caused by tax status.
Key responsibilitiesFederal (IRS) filings
  • Own quarterly Form 941 and annual Form 940 (FUTA), including deposit schedules through EFTPS.
  • Produce and file W-2/W-3, 1099-NEC/1099-MISC and 1096 on time; manage corrections (W-2c, 941-X).
  • Manage ACA reporting (1094-C/1095-C) if Dash meets the threshold, and support Form 5500 for any retirement plan.
  • Prepare workpapers for the corporate income tax return and quarterly estimates; coordinate filing with the external CPA.
  • Respond to IRS notices within deadline and keep a notice log to closure.
State and local tax filings
  • File state income tax withholding returns and annual reconciliations in every state where Dash has W-2 employees.
  • File state unemployment (SUI) quarterly wage reports and payments; track and protest SUI rate notices.
  • Manage local and municipal taxes, including Ohio municipal income tax (RITA/CCA and city filings) and other local withholding.
  • Handle state business taxes: franchise, gross receipts and commercial activity taxes, sales/use tax and annual reports.
  • Monitor nexus as consultants start in new states; open withholding and SUI accounts before the first payroll.
  • Obtain tax clearance and good-standing certificates needed for state contract bids, renewals and vendor registrations.
  • Respond to state notices and audits; drive penalty abatement where possible.
Payroll
  • Run or oversee payroll for internal staff and W-2 consultants across all states, on the agreed pay cycle.
  • Reconcile timesheets from VMS/MSP portals to payroll; ensure correct work-state and resident-state withholding, including reciprocity.
  • Administer garnishments, benefit deductions, new-hire reporting and year-end payroll close.
  • Manage the payroll provider relationship and its tax filing service; verify every agency filing it makes on Dash's behalf.
  • Reconcile payroll tax liabilities to the general ledger monthly.
Compliance governance
  • Maintain one master compliance calendar of every federal, state and local filing, with owner and due date.
  • Keep a jurisdiction register of all tax account numbers, logins and registrations, aligned with the state-registration owner in Pre-sales & Compliance.
  • Report monthly to the CEO on filings made, notices open, penalties and upcoming obligations.
  • Track rule changes (new state taxes, rate changes, remote-work rules) and brief leadership on impact.
  • Support W-9s, tax certifications and SAM.gov tax representations for federal and SLED contracts.
QualificationsRequired
  • Active CPA license (US state board), with a Bachelor's or master's in accounting.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience preparing and filing US tax returns – federal, multi-state and payroll – including at least 2 years handling multiple states at once. Candidates who only reviewed or supervised others' work will not qualify.
  • Direct experience filing 941, 940, W-2/1099, state withholding and SUI returns.
  • Working knowledge of state business taxes (franchise, gross receipts, sales/use) and municipal income tax.
  • Track record resolving IRS and state notices and penalty abatements.
  • Willing to work onsite in Ahmedabad on the US Eastern Time shift, meeting hard statutory deadlines and owning filings end to end.
Preferred
  • Experience in IT staffing or professional services with hourly W-2 consultants placed through MSP/VMS programs.
  • Exposure to government contractor requirements: tax clearance certificates, SAM.gov, state vendor registrations.

Skills, tools and KPIs
Skills: precise and deadline-driven, strong reconciliation skills, clear written communication with agencies and leadership, able to work independently in a small team.
Tools: a major payroll platform (ADP, DEEL or similar), QuickBooks or another GL, EFTPS and state tax portals, advanced Excel; ATS/VMS timesheet exports a plus.

Skills Required

  • Active CPA license issued by a U.S. state board
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience preparing and filing U.S. federal, multi-state, and payroll tax returns
