Summary Generated by Built In

The General Account (GA) Investment team oversees more than C$485B of invested assets that support Manulife's insurance and retirement liabilities. These portfolios are long-term, highly regulated, and central to the company's financial strength and ability to meet commitments to policyholders.

Reporting to the Director, Strategy & Management Reporting, this role owns the reporting and analysis that keeps GA's most senior audiences informed. The Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and Board depend on clear, accurate, and timely insight into portfolio performance. Working alongside the Director, the Manager produces that insight end to end, turning complex financial information into decision-ready narratives and partnering with senior leaders across investments, actuarial, risk, finance, and investor relations. This is a senior individual contributor role with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. For the individual, this is a chance to work closely with senior investment and operations leaders, shape how GA's story is told at the highest levels, and lead high-visibility work with long-term impact, including through the growing use of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Own the production of GA management reporting and financial analysis for the CIO, ELT, Board, and external stakeholders, including key metrics, messaging, trend analysis, decks, memos, and ad hoc requests.

  • Take full accountability for timeliness, managing the reporting calendar end-to-end and delivering accurate, complete materials under demanding quarter-end and Board deadlines.

  • Develop new reports, metrics, and analysis that provide value-add insight and recommendations to the CIO and GA Leadership Team.

  • Apply AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot to improve the speed and consistency of deliverables, and over time help embed AI and automation into the team's reporting workflows.

  • Build and maintain deep institutional knowledge of the insurance and investment business, acting as a subject-matter resource for the reporting function.

  • Maintain and progressively improve reporting processes and documentation to support the evolving needs of the business.

  • Build strong relationships across functions and liaise with External Reporting and Communications teams on data and messaging for public dissemination.

  • Contribute to elevating the storytelling and strategic narrative within GA reporting for executive and Board audiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience (typically 5+ years) with investment industry knowledge.

  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability, with a track record of independently managing deliverables end-to-end.

  • Strong time management and a proven ability to deliver multiple priorities on time under tight, changing deadlines.

  • Hands-on experience with AI productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) and interest in applying them to improve reporting workflows.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, with strong analysis and storytelling skills for effective deck production.

  • Diligent and well-organized, with strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the maturity to engage senior stakeholders directly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Teams); PowerBI experience a bonus. CFA designation (in progress or complete) an asset.

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.

  • We’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.

  • As part of our global team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
