The Role

JOB TITLE:                                 Manager, Strategic Network Optimisation Modeller


  RESPONSIBLE TO:                    Senior Manager – Network Modelling & Optimisation    


MAIN LOCATION:                    Jordan, Amman

WORKING HOURS:                Flexible, with the ability to accommodate collaboration across Australian time zones

Objective:

The Manager, Strategic Network Optimisation Modeller is a hands-on network modelling subject matter expert that leads modelling activity with site and transport cost modelling analysts to develop various network model scenarios.  The Modeller leads the setup, configuration and management of situational scenarios across various network modelling tools and applications and executes the scenarios to enable a cost-benefit analysis to be undertaken. Through this analysis, recommendations will be developed to inform the optimum number of sites and locations for the network, after volume, site costs and transport costs are traded off against each other.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Use optimisation techniques and modelling software tools to solve complex logistics problems including those related to routing, facility location, and inventory allocation.
  • Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate different logistics strategies and their potential impacts on cost and service levels.
  • Utilising strong analytical skills interpret large datasets and derive insights related to logistics performance.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations that summarise findings and recommendations.
  • Articulate complex ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders, including management and operational teams.
  • Identify potential risks in logistics networks and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Manage logistics optimisation projects from inception to completion, including defining project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Align logistics network optimisation with business goals and market trends.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial and operational scenario models to assess implications of various network strategies, business concepts, investment options and catchment strategies.
  • Undertake appropriate sensitivity testing to enable proposals to be suitably informed and able to be signed off and used as inputs for capital planning and business case development.
  • Support and promote a continuous improvement mindset across the Strategy and Planning to team, supporting initiatives that drive improvements in scenario analysis and contribute to broader improvements in network operations.
  • Maintain awareness of key changes and shifts across the enterprise to ensure developed models maintain relevance.
  • Works in partnership with other parts of the team and cross functionally with other subject matter experts to ensure an integrated “best practice” approach is taken to Network Planning.

Essential Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in logistics network optimisation, supply chain planning, or operation research roles.
  • A degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field
  • Skills in identifying potential risks in logistics networks and developing mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of Transport Management Systems (TMS) would be advantageous.

Essential Skills:

  • Relevant professional certifications (eg: APICS CPIM, Six Sigma) that demonstrate expertise in logistics and supply chain management.
  • Expertise in network optimisation modelling software (eg: Coupa (ex-Llamasoft SC Modeller) Cosmic Frog (Optilogic), AIMMS (SC Navigator), etc) to simulate logistics scenarios and evaluate performance
  • Familiarity with GIS tools for spatial analysis, route optimisation, and facility location planning.
  • Proficiency in transportation simulation tools and techniques for analysing logistics scenarios (Arena, FlexSim, Anylogic, PTV Vissim)
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (eg: Excel, SQL, R, Python) for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualisation.

Additional Requirements:


  • In addition to the responsibilities listed above the post holder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the Senior Management Team from time-to-time. Subject to adequate experience and/or training.
  • To participate in the annual performance appraisal process and objective scheme.
  • To work in accordance with all APG policies including Health and Safety, Employment, Staff, Quality and Environmental.
  • To adhere to company wide information security policies, as outlined and agreed within the first month of employment.
