The Work
 

The Manager, Strategic Finance & Corporate Development plays a critical analytical role within the Enterprise Strategy & Growth team. 

Working across enterprise strategy, corporate development, strategic investments, partnerships, and enterprise initiatives, the successful candidate will be responsible for building financial models, conducting quantitative analysis, evaluating opportunities, and supporting decision-making across some of the Bank's most important priorities. 

This role is ideal for a naturally curious, highly analytical individual who enjoys solving complex business problems through rigorous financial analysis. The successful candidate will have strong financial modelling skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to independently take a complex question and structure the analysis required to translate into actionable insights. 

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development & Investments, the individual will support all pillars of the Enterprise Strategy & Growth team and provide analytical support to executives, senior leaders, and project teams across the organization. 

This role is ideal for candidates who have strong analytical horsepower and a desire to broaden their exposure beyond traditional finance into strategy, investments, growth, and enterprise decision-making.

Core Responsibilities

    Financial Modelling & Analytics (45%) 

    • Serve as the primary financial modelling resource for the Enterprise Strategy & Growth team. 

    • Build, maintain  and own financial models supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, partnerships, investments, new products, and growth opportunities. 

    • Develop business cases and scenario analyses to evaluate strategic decisions and investment opportunities. 

    • Conduct sensitivity analysis and translate key assumptions into meaningful business insights. 

    • Analyze business performance, customer economics, growth opportunities, and financial outcomes. 

    • Support executive and Board-level decision making through robust quantitative analysis. 

    • Develop analytical tools, templates, and financial frameworks that improve decision-making and consistency across the team. 

    • Perform ad hoc analysis in support of CEO, CFO, and Executive Leadership Team priorities. 

     

    Investments, M&A & Capital Allocation (30%) 

    • Support the identification and evaluation of mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, strategic investments, and new business opportunities. 

    • Assist in financial diligence, valuation analysis, and transaction modelling activities. 

    • Prepare valuation analyses using a variety of methodologies, including discounted cash flow, comparable companies, and precedent transactions. 

    • Lead ongoing monitoring and performance assessment of EQB's strategic investments portfolio 

    • Analyze strategic alternatives and capital allocation decisions to support management recommendations. 

    • Assist in preparing materials for investment, transaction, and governance discussions. 

     

    Strategy & Growth Support (15%) 

    • Support enterprise strategy and growth initiatives through financial analysis, market assessments, and business case development. 

    • Contribute to strategic planning processes by developing supporting analyses and performance insights. 

    • Assist in evaluating growth opportunities, competitive positioning, and strategic initiatives. 

    • Translate analytical findings into concise presentations and recommendations for leadership teams. 

     

    Research & Market Intelligence (10%) 

    • Conduct research on banking, fintech, competitive, and market trends. 

    • Gather and synthesize internal and external information to support strategic projects and investment decisions. 

    • Monitor industry developments and emerging opportunities relevant to EQB's growth strategy. 

    • Support fact-base development for strategic reviews, business cases, and executive presentations. 

     

Let's Talk About You

    Experience 

    • 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance, transaction advisory, valuation, corporate development, private equity, consulting, strategic finance, or a related analytical field. 

    • Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities. 

    • Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies, and business case development. 

    • Demonstrated ability to independently execute complex analytical work. 

    • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills. 

    • Experience with financial data and research platforms such as Capital IQ, FactSet, PitchBook, Bloomberg, or similar tools is considered an asset 

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

     

    Education 

    • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Progress toward completion of the CFA designation. 

    • Experience in financial services, banking, fintech, or investment-related environments. 

    • Exposure to M&A, investments, strategic planning, or capital allocation activities. 

    • CPA, CFA, CBV, or related professional designation considered an asset.

The incumbent will be working hybrid and in office time will be spent working from EQ Bank’s additional office space located at 2200-25 Ontario Street, Toronto, ON.
