Job Summary: This is an exciting role in an innovative, high-growth defense technology company. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has a both a knack for elegant design as well as the know-how to build reliable web-based UIs. You will help bring designs to life, ensuring they are fully functional, responsive, and optimized for performance across various devices. You will be expected to contribute to all development lifecycle stages and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality user experiences. In this role, you will work closely with a talented engineering team, reporting to the director of Software and leading the front-end software team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of Front-End Software Engineers while also being a direct contributor by driving architectural decisions and best practices development
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure the seamless translation of design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members
- Provide functional management of software engineers, including overseeing staff pay adjustments, disciplinary actions, and professional development
- Manage the UI team’s workflow, prioritizing tasks and setting realistic project timelines in coordination with product management
- Implement and refine software development processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and product quality.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
- Assess hiring needs, effectively interview and onboard new Software Engineers
- Champion the use of modern front-end technologies and UI frameworks to drive innovation
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in UI/UX design, web technologies, and best practices
- ~50% of the time will be hands-on coding/independent contribution
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of professional experience in user interface development, focusing on managing teams or projects.
- Strong experience with front-end development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript (React, Angular, or similar frameworks).
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of UI testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Selenium)
- Experience with design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch)
- Experience with Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and modern DevOps practices
- Knowledge of performance optimization techniques for front-end applications
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:
$200,100—$246,800 USD
