Riot Games is committed to changing the way video games are developed, published, and supported for players.
The Role
Lead a team of engineers in the Unreal Ecosystem, managing AI initiatives, mentoring staff, and improving developer workflows. Collaborate with product leadership to enhance team effectiveness and ownership of technical areas.
Summary Generated by Built In

Riot engineers combine deep expertise in specific technical areas with a passion for exploring broader domains. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead by example—driving software excellence, advocating for best practices, and ensuring the best outcomes for both developers and players. Beyond technical leadership, you’ll mentor and support your team, fostering growth, accountability, and high performance.

As a Manager, Software Engineering on the Unreal Ecosystem (UnEco) team, you’ll lead a team building AI agents, tools, and agentic workflows that make it easier for Riot teams to build and ship games in Unreal. You’ll combine people leadership, strong engineering judgment, and hands-on experience with AI to improve how developers work every day. You’ll tackle diverse technical challenges, ramp quickly on new domains, and ship solutions that empower developers and, ultimately, deliver better experiences for players.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a group of 4-7 software engineers, coaching them, holding them accountable to best practices and their growth plan
  • Own the roadmap and delivery of various AI initiatives and workflows used by multiple teams
  • Define and ship agentic AI experiences that orchestrate tools and services to automate common Unreal workflows for developers (for example, triaging issues, proposing fixes, generating scaffolding, or keeping projects in a healthy state)
  • Partner with discipline and product leadership to develop strategies for improving team health and effectiveness
  • Define and track metrics for developer experience and productivity, and use them - along with user feedback - to iterate on tools and agents.
  • Build healthy relationships with other engineering teams at Riot to foster cross-team collaboration
  • Mentor engineers in best practices for the current product phase
  • Champion your sourcing and hiring processes to identify and hire engineers
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years professional experience as a software engineer working in a game development team
  • 3+ years as an Engineering Manager leading engineers
  • Experience serving as a technical lead for an AI-backed product area
  • Experience recruiting candidates and growing an engineering team
  • Experience participating in technical discussions such as technical design reviews and code reviews
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with game engines (ex. Unity, Unreal Engine)
  • Experience shipping software to customers
  • Experience with automation

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about the experiences of players, this could be the role for you!
