A successful Engineering Manager at Fiserv leads the design, development, and delivery of scalable, secure, and highly available components of our Merchant Acquiring Platform, supporting authorization, clearing, settlement, and interchange processing across multiple regions.
This role is responsible for building and leading high‑performing engineering teams, ensuring strong technical execution, and driving predictable delivery of high-quality software solutions that solve complex business problems.
What will you do
- Lead and manage a team of software engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Own engineering delivery including scope, quality, timelines, and technical outcomes.
- Oversee design, development, and implementation of Java-based microservices and APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, SRE, and Operations teams to convert business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Drive engineering best practices such as design reviews, code quality, automated testing, and CI/CD adoption.
- Ensure systems are designed with reliability, scalability, and operational readiness in mind.
- Participate in incident reviews and guide teams toward long-term corrective solutions.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance engineering culture.
- Provide mentorship and career development support for engineers and senior engineers.
- Stay updated with emerging AI technologies and recommend adoption strategies aligned with business and engineering goals.
- Leverage ML, NLP, or AI-driven automation to optimize engineering workflows, testing, data analysis, and product development.
What you need to have
- 8+ years of experience in software development.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams or acting as a technical leader.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Microservices-based architectures.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service-to-service communication.
- Experience with SQL databases (Oracle/Postgres), including schema design and performance considerations.
- Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka.
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience working with Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Ability to guide teams through technical challenges in distributed systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
What would be great to have
- Prior experience with payments, banking or regulated fintech platforms handling authorization, clearing, settlement, and interchange.
- Exposure to hybrid environments (OnPrem with partial cloud integrations) from an operations perspective.
- Experience using AI APIs (OpenAI, Azure AI, AWS Bedrock) for internal engineering or productivity use cases is a plus.
- Experience defining engineering metrics and delivery KPIs.
- Mentoring experience with globally distributed support teams.
- Knowledge of ethical AI usage, data governance, and secure handling of payment‑related operational data.
- Understanding of AI concepts: LLMs, NLP, embeddings, RAG, automation, model safety.
