The market is evolving, and we are too, moving the entire automotive journey online and guiding our customers through every step. That includes everything from the sale of an old car to the financing, purchase, and delivery of a new one. Today, tens of millions of consumers visit CarGurus.com each month, and ~30,000 dealerships use our products. But they're not the only ones who love CarGurus-our employees do, too. We have a people-first culture that fosters kindness, collaboration, and innovation, and empowers our Gurus with tools to fuel their career growth. Disrupting a trillion-dollar industry requires fresh and diverse perspectives. Come join us for the ride!
Role overview
As the founding Engineering Manager for CarGurus' new Dublin office, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading a team of talented full stack engineers focused on dealer-facing products and features for our international markets. You will partner closely with a Product Manager to establish the team's vision, culture, and roadmap from the ground up.
In this role, you will embody our Leadership Capabilities by maintaining a relentless focus on customer outcomes, fostering open communication and cross-team collaboration, and embracing an iterative approach to both product development and team management. Your team will own a discrete area of the product, delivering greenfield projects as well as adapting existing dealer products for our Canadian and UK markets.
Join us and play a crucial role in shaping the future of our international dealer products while building a high-performing engineering team in Dublin, while closely collaborating with US-based partner teams. No need to be a car expert-we're more interested in your passion for engineering and your leadership!
What you'll do
  • Establish and grow CarGurus' Dublin engineering presence, setting the foundation for team culture, practices, and standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of full stack engineers through architecture and design guidance, coaching, and hands-on collaboration.
  • Partner with your Product Manager to define and own the team's roadmap, with a focus on dealer-facing products for international markets.
  • Drive customer outcomes by measuring the impact of the team's work and iterating based on data and feedback.
  • Deliver greenfield projects and adapt existing CarGurus dealer products for Canadian and UK markets.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product, design, and infrastructure to ensure alignment on projects and objectives to optimize impact on international customers.
  • Recruit and retain top engineering talent in partnership with the recruiting team to build a diverse and high-performing team.
  • Support team members' career growth through individualized guidance and development opportunities tailored to their goals.
  • Own problems from end-to-end, managing diverse systems, processes, and technologies to optimize efficiency and user experience.
  • Embrace our leadership capabilities by embodying a growth mindset and fostering an environment of learning, developing, and growing together; create meaningful partnerships and a sense of belonging, setting foundations of trust, respect, inclusion, and empathy in how we work.

What you'll bring
  • Proven experience of 2+ years in managing and growing teams of full stack engineers focused on building and shipping products at scale.
  • Minimum of 5 years of extensive hands-on software design and development experience across the full stack including Java, React and TypeScript (or similar languages).
  • Experience building and scaling teams from the ground up, including interviewing, hiring, and onboarding engineers.
  • A track record of working on nimble teams that iterate quickly, delivering meaningful customer outcomes rather than just outputs.
  • Experience thriving in cross-functional environments where you have demonstrated rigorous thinking and effective decision-making.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
