We’re driven by purpose, passion, and innovation — and we’re looking for a Senior Manager, Software Development to lead a diverse, cross-functional engineering team spanning backend, frontend, full-stack, iOS, and Android disciplines.

In this role, you’ll guide talented engineers in building scalable, resilient, and high-performing applications that power one of the world’s largest online marketplaces. You’ll drive architectural vision, enable technical excellence, and foster a culture of ownership, inclusion, and continuous learning — helping shape the future of global commerce at eBay.

• Lead Engineering Execution: Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of backend, frontend, full-stack, and mobile engineers across levels, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
   

• Drive Architecture and Design: Architect and evolve scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems that serve millions of daily users globally.
   

• Own End-to-End Delivery: Oversee the full software lifecycle — from concept and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing site reliability.
   

• Technical Leadership: Guide technical direction for the team, providing expertise in backend technologies (Java, Python, Node.js), microservices, APIs, and modern web and mobile frameworks.
   

• Champion Quality and Security: Ensure best practices for code quality, observability, performance, and security are embedded throughout the development and release process.
   

• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with product management, design, payments, and platform teams to align technology strategies with eBay’s business objectives.
   

• Operational Excellence: Implement CI/CD pipelines, lead production readiness reviews, and maintain high service uptime for our “always-on” global platform.
   

• Innovation and Growth: Stay ahead of emerging technologies (AI/ML, event-driven systems, cloud-native tools) and drive adoption of modern engineering patterns that enhance developer productivity and product velocity.
   

• Mentor and Develop Talent: Coach engineers and engineering managers, providing guidance on career development, technical growth, and effective cross-team collaboration.
   

• Extensive Technical Background:
   

  • 12+ years of hands-on software development experience building large-scale, high-volume systems using Java, Python, Node.js, or Scala.
     

  • Proven success designing and delivering microservices and event-driven architectures in cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
     

  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, RDBMS/NoSQL databases, ElasticSearch, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
     

  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks (ReactJS, Angular, or equivalent) and mobile app ecosystems (iOS/Android).
     

• Leadership Experience:
   

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering management experience, leading multi-tier teams with engineers across backend, frontend, and mobile disciplines.
     

  • Strong track record of scaling teams, improving delivery efficiency, and building a healthy, inclusive team culture.
     

  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic organizational guidance.
     

• Domain Expertise:
   

  • Experience in Payments, Financial Services, or related transaction-heavy systems preferred.
     

  • Understanding of security, compliance, and regulatory standards within financial or commerce platforms.
     

• Operational & Agile Mastery:
   

  • Expertise in Agile methodologies, iterative delivery, and project management within complex product ecosystems.
     

  • Skilled in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and release automation frameworks.
     

• Soft Skills and Leadership Qualities:
   

  • Exceptional communication and decision-making skills; capable of influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
     

  • Strong sense of ownership, resilience, and adaptability — embracing challenges and differences to drive results.
     

  • Passionate about mentoring and enabling others to reach their full potential, including distributed and remote teams.
     

• Experience applying AI or machine learning to real-world product or infrastructure challenges.
   

• Contributions to open-source projects or active engagement in the software engineering community.
   

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s degree preferred).
