[What the role is]

The officer will play a key role in contributing to the success of the Singapore Grand Prix, a marquee annual event for Singapore that contributes significant economic and tourism benefits, and in raising the profile of destination Singapore. First held in 2008, the Singapore Grand Prix was the first night race in the FIA Formula One World Championship race calendar. It remains to be Asia’s only street circuit and night race.
STB is responsible for leading the Whole-of-Government effort to plan and execute this world class event in partnership with our race promoter Singapore GP Pte Ltd (SGP).

[What you will be working on]

1. Stakeholder management. As a street race, support and buy-in from multiple stakeholders is critical for the success of the race. The officer will work closely with diverse stakeholders, including Marina Bay stakeholders (e.g., hotels and malls), race promoter SGP and other Government agencies, to innovate ways to improve the race experience for businesses, public, and patrons. The officer will also lead the management of stakeholder-related queries in the lead up to and during the race week at the Joint Operations Command (JOC).

2. Circuit & Infrastructure (C&I) Subcommittee. The officer will:

  • Work closely with diverse stakeholders to plan and review the lighting of key trackside properties around the Marina Bay circuit (“city lighting”) to maximise the showcase of Singapore's cityscape on aerial broadcast, which translates into international media value and destination branding. The officer will have the opportunity to refresh the city lighting plans for the next few years.

  • Work closely with diverse stakeholders to manage critical assets (e.g., overpasses etc) to ensure these are ready for the race each year.

  • Take on Secretariat duties as the C&I Subcommittee Secretariat (rotational basis with other officers in the team).

  • Manage budget, put up papers, and analyse issues to develop recommendations to senior management to guide decision-making.

3. Security & Emergency Response (S&ER) and Traffic & Transport Subcommittees. The officer will be STB’s key representative and liaison for both Subcommittees respectively led by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The officer will:

  • Work closely with various Government agencies and race promoter SGP to set up and manage the Joint Operations Command (JOC) which serves as the nerve centre of operations and communications during the race weekend. The officer may be required to work closely with agencies and race promoter SGP to manage any security-related issues.

  • Represent STB in Subcommittee meetings, including to lead STB’s inputs where required.

  • Work closely with SPF and LTA on budget reimbursement.

4. This role will enable the officer to build effective relationship-building, problem solving, and budget management skills.

Key relationships:

1. External: Marina Bay stakeholders, race promoter SGP and Government agencies (especially SPF and LTA)

2. Internal: Procurement, Finance, and Legal

Competency requirements:

  • Showing good business acumen, analytical thinking and judgement

  • Working effectively within STB to achieve results

  • Working effectively with stakeholders outside STB

  • Serving with heart, commitment and purpose

  • Being innovative and learning continuously
