At Westpac New Zealand, we’re committed to building a stronger, safer financial system. We’re looking for an experienced Manager, Sanctions Advisory to provide independent oversight and expert advice on sanctions risk within our Risk function.
This is a high-impact role where you will support the effectiveness of the sanctions control framework, providing advice on complex and sensitive matters while ensuring alignment with global sanctions regimes and regulatory expectations.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Risk, Legal, Product and Operations to provide independent challenge, support decision-making, and embed robust risk management practices across the business.
Ngā mahi | What you’ll be doing
Provide expert advice on complex sanctions matters, including high-risk transactions and customer scenarios
Oversee and assess the effectiveness of the sanctions control framework, including control testing and issue remediation
Provide independent oversight and challenge of sanctions risk management across the business
Assess impacts of new and existing products, services and business initiatives on sanctions risk
Monitor geopolitical and regulatory developments and translate impacts into practical business guidance
Engage and influence stakeholders across Risk, Legal, Product, Operations and Audit
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
5+ years’ experience in sanctions, financial crime or regulatory compliance roles
Strong knowledge of international sanctions regimes and regulatory frameworks (e.g. United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, European Union)
Experience in risk management, control design, and assurance or testing
Ability to analyse complex and high-risk scenarios and provide clear, practical advice
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
