What you’ll do

Reporting to the AVP, Insurance and Environment, you will play a key role in supporting the organization's risk management and insurance program.  Your work will help identify, assess, and mitigate risks while contributing to the overall protection of the business, its assets, brand and reputation.

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional relationship management skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Operational:

  • Develop/administer insurance and risk management programs and strategies as set out by senior management

  • Conduct statistical analysis of loss information and identify trends for loss prevention with the objective of reducing operational and reputational risk across the organization

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and open communication with business unit leaders to promote awareness of risk management practices, procedures and culture

  • Participate as key member of Product Compliance Committee to help facilitate key decisions with respect to product safety, quality, and liability

  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, insurance brokers, carriers, third party claims adjusters, and other key risk professionals

  • Evaluate services and negotiate contract renewal and compensation for insurance brokers, consultants, and third-party claims administrators (TPAs)

  • Attend annual site visits to key facilities by insurers and support risk control efforts by gathering information and responding to any related recommendations for improvement

  • Provide consultation on third party contracts and make recommendations specific to indemnity and insurance requirements, based on risk exposure and appetite

  • Conduct all insurance related due diligence and reviews of acquisitions and new business initiatives

  • Manage and mentor all reporting positions

Claims:

  • Oversee the claims intake and handling process for all business units and take lead on managing litigation claims and large first party property losses, while making key decisions on reporting and handling strategies

  • Work closely with insurers, third party claims adjusters, and defense counsel to appropriately evaluate and manage all insurance claim activity across the enterprise to protect CTC’s brand and ensure compliance with all legal requirements and timelines 

  • Engage with Merchandise teams to procure evidence and information as it relates to product liability claims

  • Prepare regular claim accounting reports and reconciliations to ensure adequate trust account funding is available

  • Monitor and evaluate progress of claims management by conducting quarterly KPI review of third-party adjusters’ activities and outcomes

Renewal: 

  • Support all activities required to facilitate the placement and renewal of all corporate insurance policies and bonds

  • Ensure that operational risks are insured at adequate levels and with the appropriate retentions; negotiate premiums, retentions and other aspects of all commercial insurance and other forms of risk transfer

  • Continued evaluation of insurance portfolio to ensure policy terms and conditions adequately address exposures, new initiatives, and emerging risks, where appropriate

  • Review insurance policies for accuracy and coverage familiarity; order policy wording changes and improvements as required and necessary for new exposures

  • Stay current with competitive trends and insurance marketplace issues and best practices

  • Prepare reporting to Audit Committee and Board of Directors on developments and outcomes associated with the placement and annual renewal of the insurance programs and claims activity

What you bring 

  • University degree or College diploma in a business-related discipline 

  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM), Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or equivalent designation, or progressing towards completion 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate risk management and insurance function (preferably retail, real estate or financial services) or related claims management background

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in managing, mentoring and developing others

  • Proficient intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills, including Copilot, and willingness to learn advanced skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • French bilingualism would be an asset.

Broadband Salary Range: $79,000 – $131,000 CAD.
Our typical hiring range is between $105,000 and $115,000 CAD. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements. For critical roles, the compensation offering will be reviewed to ensure alignment with market rate and conditions and the unique value you bring to the role.
