As a Manager, Quality, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Consults with leadership team to set short-term strategic direction and operating plans for assigned areas of responsibility and define guidelines/methods. Decisions are typically limited by business or functional area objectives/guidelines. Initiates and approves projects to continuously improve efficiency and competitiveness.

  • May have direct responsibility or work with functional leader for functional strategic planning, including establishing and managing budgets for one or more departments in the immediate organization.

  • Management responsibility usually encompasses one work group/department within a quality area, such as quality assurance, product quality control, in-coming quality control, Six Sigma, ISO, warranty analysis, etc. Determines priorities, timetables and assigns resources/tasks. Accountable for the activities and results of their functional area.

  • Typically, provides direct supervision to professional and support levels which include objective setting, performance management, and motivating, as well as training and coaching.

  • Problem solving requires hypothetical thinking to determine best solutions for complex problems. Utilizes resources across work areas and departments to create solutions. Most complex problem solving may require in-depth interpretation and analysis for significantly different situations.

  • Has a moderate impact typically on a small to medium, established business.

  • Has responsibility for establishing and enforcing multiple concepts related to the function.

  • Working tasks might include Implements quality plans and standards for a small to medium sized manufacturing operation. Coaches and explains quality data and methodologies to functional leaders and outside suppliers/manufacturers to ensure their understanding and buy-in. Partners with engineering, production, maintenance, etc. to maintain/increase the quality level within the organization. Ensures local issues are incorporated into global total quality management plans, taking legal requirements and local manufacturing processes into consideration. Monitors quality control processes, work assignments, attendance control, vacation planning, staffing levels, etc. Anticipates new regulations and standards to be imposed in the future before launching a new main-line production. Assures achievement of recognized international standards such as Six Sigma, ISO 9000, etc. Promote quality best practice within the company and build a quality-oriented culture for the organization. Coordinates operating activities so that products are manufactured within quality standards. Incumbent typically communicates with managers, functional leaders, area/business leaders, department heads, and direct subordinates.

  • Negotiates and counsels on an expert level, justifies controversial positions and demonstrates intermediate persuasion skills. Interaction involves convincing others to cooperate, grant approval, or act of a certain kind.

  • Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).

  • Seven (7) years of manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

  • Three (3) years of supervisory and/or management experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Expert/master knowledge and experience with the most current theories and practices in a related discipline and a thorough knowledge of more than one related discipline, such as quality assurance, product quality control, in-coming quality control, Six Sigma, ISO,

Work location: Onsite, Tonawanda, NY

Travel: May include up to 10%

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $188,251 - $230,084, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
