Your Opportunity as the Manager, Quality Assurance
This position is responsible for managing and implementing packaging supplier compliance. The scope of the position involves assurance that all new and existing packaging suppliers are in compliance with all Food Safety, Regulatory and Quality standards at JMS owned and JMS co-packer facilities. This role will assist with driving down non-conforming packaging materials in support of packing material reliability improvements. This is a new focus area and will help define process and workflows with each business unit. Role will require ability to work on big picture strategy as well as be detail oriented and in the weeds of projects. The candidate will need to be flexible and adjust to the appropriate level of detail needed for each situation/project.
Location: Orrville, Corporate Offices
Work Arrangements: Hybrid, 30% in office expectations (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday during “core weeks”)
In this role you will:
Packaging Supplier Quality Management

Conduct and facilitate root cause analysis and process improvement through cross-functional work with procurement, Plant TSO (Technical Service Organization) teams, Packaging R&D and our packaging suppliers to drive down occurrences of non-conforming packaging materials to facilitate continuous improvement

Support development of test (CQV) plans for packaging changes, improvement, supply assurance, and cost savings projects

Approve new and manage existing packaging material suppliers to ensure compliance with food safety and quality requirements

Conduct on-site audits of new and existing packaging suppliers. This could be for assessing Food Safety and Quality requirements or to support suppliers with identification and correction of facility non-conformances

Follow, maintain, and improve standard food safety and quality management procedures for packaging supplier and packaging material processes (Quality Documentation – Qdocs)

Maintain packaging supplier documentation in TraceGains and assist plants in monitoring product compliance to Smucker Packaging Specifications in Prodika

Work collaboratively with internal partners in Procurement, Co-Pack Operations, Operations, Plant TSO teams, Packaging R&D and external partners at suppliers and co-Packers
Packaging Material Quality Management at Contract Manufacturers

Provide support for Co-pack QA team for packaging projects at co-manufacturers

Provide root cause and continuous improvement support with Co-Pack QA team when issues arise at co-packers when we guide packaging requirements for co-packers
Support miscellaneous Quality projects and initiatives needed

What we are looking for:
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s of Science degree
-
5 years of CPG or Pharmaceutical packaging experience in a manufacturing environment

Packaging experience is required – Operational packaging or R&D/Technical Services packaging

Solid working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, processing and distribution

Strong ability to work in cross-functional & team-oriented environment with multiple disciplines

Proven capabilities in project management

Self-starter; take charge, positive & proactive attitude, easily understands & follow directions

Ability to lead several projects altogether and concurrently
-
Detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities

Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Specification management system like Prodika, etc.)

Ability to communicate clearly within the organization and externally

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
High emotional intelligence and ability to work with ever changing conditions

Position may require up to 40% travel annually (some international travel may be required)
