ROLE SUMMARY
The Lead Automation & M aintenance Manager is responsible for site-level ownership and technical leadership of automation, electrical, and data systems supporting operations at the C hesterfield R&D site. This role applies deep subject matter expertise to design, integration, and continuously improves systems that enable reliable operations, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making. The position operates with a high degree of independence, leading technical initiatives, influencing stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with Global Workplace Experience standards and site business needs. This role functions as an individual contributor with significant technical responsibility, leveraging expertise and influence to deliver results without direct people management accountability. Partners with other GWE sites (e.g., Bothell, Andover) to standardize solutions. This role operates as a senior individual contributor providing technical leadership without direct people management responsibility.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the site and network subject matter for performance and reliability of automation, electrical, and data systems, including lifecycle planning and continuous improvement.
  • Design and implement system architecture, integrations, and enhancements to support evolving site and enterprise requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and analytics tools to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive energy and utility optimization initiatives through metering strategy, data analysis, and system improvements.
  • Ensure compliance and inspection readiness of systems and data practices in alignment with GMP, GLP, and GCP standards.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams as technical authority for automation and data systems.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to service providers and project teams, ensuring alignment to requirements and standards.
  • Drives alignment across engineering, operations, vendors, and leadership.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts for complex system issues, driving timely and effective resolution.
  • Defines standards, strategies, and technical roadmaps.
  • Identify and lead initiatives that deliver measurable cost savings, energy reductions, or reliability improvements.
  • Translate business needs into technology strategy and investment priorities.
  • Drives digital transformation initiatives.
  • Establishes data governance and analytics frameworks.
  • Integrates enterprise platforms (e.g., CMMS, BMS, IoT systems).
  • Ensure alignment to GWE standards and contribute to development of global engineering standards and best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience extracting, analyzing, and presenting system data in a usable format for operational or leadership decision-making
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience supporting electrical, automation, or facility systems in a regulated or industrial environment
  • Experience providing engineering operations support, project support, and technical input for facility or infrastructure systems

Technical Skills
  • Working knowledge of power distribution, emergency generation, UPS systems, and facility support utilities
  • Experience with PLC control systems, HMI software, power monitoring tools, and smart building or IoT technologies (lighting systems and GUI operating/reporting systems)
  • Knowledge of network architecture, server communications, and troubleshooting of ethernet and fiber-connected systems
  • Ability to use test equipment and diagnostic tools to evaluate automation and electrical systems
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, evaluations, cost estimates, and design documentation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and communicate effectively with stakeholders

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Building Management System software and associated hardware
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry practices, including change management procedures
  • Familiarity with project management methods, procedures, and controls
  • Experience with Pfizer systems such as KodeLabs, Johnson Controls, Enlighted and EAMS.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience supporting regulated environments (GxP highly preferred).

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints. On a daily basis, the position responsibilities may require the ability to stoop; to reach; to stand, to walk and sit for extended periods of time; to push and/or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation; to use finger dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment and hand strength to grasp objects; to perceive the attributes of objects by touch; to hear and verbally exchange ideas and information with colleagues and others on the phone and in the office; to see clearly from less than one foot to arm's length with a good field of vision and to distinguish basic colors and shades of color. On a frequent basis, essential duties of the position may require the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, to kneel and/or crouch to retrieve items.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Day shift with occasional after hours or weekend response for onsite support associated with facility incidents or excursions or planned shutdowns for maintenance and/or capital and expense project execution
  • Respond as required to the site in support of business continuity and emergency events
  • Periodic travel may be required in support of GWE business requirements
  • Entry and work inside laboratories, mechanical/electrical rooms, maintenance shops, shipping and receiving and service corridors. While working in these areas, strict adherence to gowning procedures and personal protective equipment will be required as applicable.
  • General safety knowledge and awareness expected in office, laboratory and manufacturing environments.

Work Location Assignment: Hybrid. Must be able to work in assigned Pfizer office 2-3 days per week, or as needed by the business

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,200.00 to $165,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
