Flowserve is seeking a dynamic, accomplished Manager, Project Management – New Product Development (NPD) to lead and strengthen the enterprise product-development project management function. This leader will drive consistent, disciplined execution of global NPD initiatives across product platforms, ensuring programs deliver against strategic commitments for scope, schedule, cost, quality, and customer value.

The Manager will lead a team of cross-platform Project Managers; establish common governance, reporting, tools, and operating practices; and partner closely with NPD, Strategic Business Management (SBM), Design-to-Value (DtV), Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Commercial teams. This role is central to improving portfolio visibility, resolving cross-functional execution barriers, accelerating innovation, and building a high-performing global project management organization.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise NPD Execution and Governance

  • Lead the consistent, global application of Flowserve’s New Product Development and Product Development Process frameworks across platforms and business functions.
  • Establish and maintain enterprise-level project governance, including phase-gate expectations, decision-readiness criteria, escalation paths, project-health standards, and leadership review cadences.
  • Own the definition, reporting, and continuous improvement of core NPD performance metrics, including On-Time Delivery, On-Budget Delivery, project health, milestone attainment, risk exposure, resource utilization, and product vitality.
  • Ensure project teams maintain integrated plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resources, dependencies, risks, decisions, and deliverables.
  • Drive disciplined execution from concept through development, validation, industrialization, launch, and post-launch transition.

Process, Tools, and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead enterprise-level improvement and standardization of NPD, Product Development Process, and Design-to-Value practices.
  • Develop and maintain project-management procedures, templates, playbooks, deliverables, reporting tools, and governance standards.
  • Partner with NPD and DtV leaders to identify execution gaps, simplify processes, improve adoption, and embed best practices across the organization.
  • Evaluate and recommend project-management, portfolio-management, reporting, and collaboration tools that improve visibility, efficiency, and decision quality.
  • Participate in assessments involving third-party consultants, supplemental workforce partners, and organizational/process-improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate the development, communication, training, and adoption plans required to implement process and tool improvements successfully.

Portfolio, Capacity, and Financial Management

  • Lead the team of cross-platform Project Managers in the execution of prioritized NPD initiatives.
  • Conduct regular capacity-and-demand assessments to inform project-manager assignments, workforce planning, prioritization discussions, and resource-gap resolution.
  • Partner with NPD, SBM, DtV leadership, and functional leaders to translate portfolio priorities into executable delivery plans.
  • Own NPD budget reporting in collaboration with NPD Leads and Financial Business Partners, including forecast accuracy, project cost performance, and cost-to-complete visibility.
  • Provide executive-level portfolio reporting that highlights performance trends, decisions required, delivery risks, resource constraints, and recommended actions.
  • Support business cases, financial analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and Design-to-Value initiatives that improve program outcomes and resource allocation.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Risk Management

  • Lead resolution of enterprise-level project-support gaps while operating in alignment with the NPD RACI and functional-accountability model.
  • Build strong partnerships across Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Service, Finance, and Commercial functions.
  • Facilitate timely decisions, resolve cross-functional conflicts, remove barriers, and escalate issues when necessary to protect project commitments.
  • Champion proactive risk management by ensuring teams identify, assess, mitigate, and communicate technical, commercial, operational, supply-chain, financial, and schedule risks.
  • Ensure project teams use appropriate contingency plans, corrective actions, and lessons learned to reduce recurring execution issues.
  • Ensure new intellectual-property creation and protection processes are understood, integrated into project execution, and consistently followed.

People Leadership and Capability Building

  • Lead, coach, and develop a global team of Project Managers supporting NPD initiatives across product platforms.
  • Establish clear individual goals, responsibilities, development plans, and performance expectations for team members.
  • Build team capability in project leadership, product-development execution, financial management, risk management, communication, conflict resolution, and executive-level reporting.
  • Create an environment in which Project Managers are empowered to lead decisions, provide informed technical and business input, challenge assumptions, resolve conflicts, and escalate appropriately.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Develop role-based training and change-management plans to drive adoption of improved processes, tools, and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in project management, product development, engineering, industrial products, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in an individual contributor technical role, such as product designer, engineer, test technician, manufacturing engineer, or equivalent technical development role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex New Product Development, R&D, value-engineering, or product-lifecycle initiatives from concept through launch.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional teams in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Strong understanding of phase-gate or stage-gate product-development processes, project governance, integrated scheduling, and portfolio reporting. Formal phase-gate governance, cross-functional execution, risk management, and delivery against cost, quality, and schedule targets are common expectations for NPD leadership roles in industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, financial forecasts, cost-benefit analyses, and resource-allocation decisions.
  • Strong experience identifying, assessing, communicating, and mitigating program risks.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority, align diverse stakeholders, resolve conflict, and drive timely decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and business information for varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational and process change, including adoption of new tools, standards, and ways of working.
  • Strong people-leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and project-management, portfolio-management, and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP certification, or equivalent demonstrated experience applying formal project-management methodologies.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading global teams and managing geographically distributed project portfolios.
  • Experience in pumps, valves, seals, flow-control equipment, industrial equipment, energy, process industries, or similarly complex engineered-product environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile, hybrid Agile/stage-gate, Lean, Design-to-Value, Design for Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Power BI, Microsoft BI dashboards, Mural, Planview, or comparable portfolio and collaboration platforms.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management, engineering-change management, and intellectual-property processes.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing project-management office, portfolio governance, or enterprise reporting improvements.

Leadership Competencies

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strategic execution: Converts business priorities into practical, measurable delivery plans.
  • Enterprise mindset: Balances platform, functional, and enterprise needs while optimizing the overall NPD portfolio.
  • Technical credibility: Understands the realities of engineered-product development, testing, industrialization, and launch.
  • Change leadership: Drives adoption through clear communication, practical tools, training, and visible accountability.
  • Data-driven judgment: Uses project, financial, capacity, and risk data to make sound recommendations.
  • Collaborative influence: Builds alignment across functions, regions, and levels of the organization.
  • Talent development: Builds capable, confident Project Managers who lead rather than simply administer schedules.
  • Ownership and urgency: Maintains a disciplined focus on commitments, decisions, risks, and customer outcomes.

Success Measures

Success in this role will be reflected through:

  • Improved On-Time Delivery, On-Budget Delivery, and project-health performance across the NPD portfolio.
  • Stronger project predictability, milestone discipline, and decision readiness.
  • Consistent adoption of enterprise NPD processes, templates, governance, and reporting standards.
  • Improved visibility into portfolio capacity, resource constraints, risks, and investment needs.
  • Faster identification and resolution of cross-functional project-support gaps.
  • Improved financial forecasting and budget performance for NPD programs.
  • Increased maturity and effectiveness of the global Project Management team.
  • Stronger execution of innovation, product-vitality, and Design-to-Value objectives.
