Te tūranga – The role and your impact
The Manager of the Portfolio Management team plays a key role in managing the Reserve Bank - Te Pūtea Matua balance sheet and supporting the effective operation of its participation in financial markets. You will work closely with, and be supported by, senior leadership and your managerial cohort within the Financial Markets directorate.
Alongside providing deep financial markets expertise, you will lead and develop the team, set clear strategic direction, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Portfolio Management team executes transactions in wholesale financial markets on a day-to-day basis to implement monetary policy, support liquidity in the domestic banking sector, and manage the Reserve Bank’s portfolio of foreign reserves.

We’re looking for an experienced leader with a strong financial markets background.
You will bring:
A proven ability to foster operational excellence and develop high-performing teams
An in-depth understanding of financial markets, with experience applying that knowledge in practice
Excellent strategic thinking skills and a future-focused perspective
The ability to build an engaged, inclusive and high-performing team culture
Proven leadership experience within financial markets or central banking
Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
A strong understanding of the role of a central bank in financial markets
Strong track record of coaching, mentoring and developing high performing financial markets team members (and teams).
Knowledge of key market and credit risk tools and techniques and experience in managing financial markets risk within approved delegations.
