Reporting to the Director, Pension Communications, the Manager, Pension Communications (Strategic Projects) leads communications delivery for complex, cross-functional initiatives that shape the member and employer experience at OMERS. Working in close partnership with teams across the Pensions division, this role translates technical, operational and regulatory changes into clear, human-centred communications that inform, empower and build trust among OMERS members, employers and stakeholders.

This role blends strategic storytelling with UX design, digital content architecture and project delivery discipline. The successful candidate will thrive at the intersection of communications, product development and experience design, helping share how information is structured, surfaced and experienced across digital and transactional channels.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead communications delivery for high-impact projects (i.e., product releases, policy or legislative updates or changes, digital experience updates).
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, developers and legal/policy experts to ensure that member and employer communications are accurate, user-centred and seamlessly integrated across touchpoints.
  • Translate technical or regulatory concepts into plain-language content and intuitive information journeys.
  • Develop UX writing frameworks and design system guidance for consistent tone, terminology and interaction patterns across digital platforms.
  • Support change management and operational readiness through internal toolkits, briefing materials and processing documentation.
  • Establish content requirements and governance standards in collaboration with other Pensions teams.
  • Mentor team members on digital communication and UX writing best practices.

Required skills and experience

  • 7–10 years’ experience in communications, UX/content design, or digital product delivery—ideally within pensions, financial services, or a regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of the full product lifecycle, from discovery and requirements gathering to testing and release.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams (product, policy, legal, and IT).
  • Proven experience in UX writing or content design, including structuring digital flows, microcopy, and interface messaging.
  • Excellent judgment in simplifying complex or policy-heavy content for public audiences.
  • Project management skills: able to scope communications deliverables, manage timelines, and coordinate dependencies.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal communication skills; able to influence without authority.

Technical skills

  • UX writing & design systems: Familiarity with tools such as Figma; ability to interpret wireframes and prototype content.
  • Project tools: Comfort using Jira for managing workflow and aligning with product teams.
  • Accessibility & compliance: Understanding of plain-language writing principles for regulated or public-sector audiences.
  • Collaboration tools: Familiarity Confluence, SharePoint and Teams for co-design and documentation.

Preferred background

  • Experience in pension communications, insurance, banking, or another complex, member-servicing environment.
  • Exposure to Agile or hybrid delivery models, and ability to translate user stories into communications plans.
  • Post-secondary education in Communications, UX Design, Information Architecture, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications or training in UX Writing, Human-Centred Design, or Change Management are assets.

What success looks like in this role

  • Clear, timely, and integrated communications across complex multi-team projects.
  • Reduced member friction and improved comprehension in new digital journeys.
  • Strong cross-departmental relationships and communications embedded early in project planning.
  • Documented frameworks and repeatable processes that improve consistency across future initiatives.
