Manager, Payroll
Position Overview
The Manager, Payroll is responsible for leading all payroll-related activities, partnering closely with the M&A COE, regional Payroll Operations teams, P&C, Finance, Tax, Workday Technology, and external vendors to ensure seamless employee transitions and payroll continuity throughout the M&A lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Systems Integration• Lead payroll execution of workstream activities • Oversee payroll implementation, testing, and stabilization activities to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery for all new mergers, acquisitions and divestitures • Partner with Workday Product & Engineering team, Payroll Operations, M&A COE and external providers to ensure successful technical implementation.
Compliance & Controls• Ensure payroll integrations comply with local, state, federal, and international regulatory requirements.• Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness throughout integration activities.• Identify and mitigate payroll compliance risks associated with acquisitions and divestitures.
Continuous Improvement• Partner with M&A COE to maintain payroll integration playbooks, templates, and best practices.• Incorporate lessons learned into future integrations.• Identify opportunities to streamline integration activities and improve scalability.
Qualifications• Deep knowledge of multi-country payroll operations, compliance, and controls.• Experience working with HRIS and payroll platforms (Workday, ADP, Oracle, or similar).• Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.• Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.• Experience leading payroll integrations during acquisitions or divestitures.• Experience working in a shared services or global business services organization.• Knowledge of payroll tax, mobility, equity, and international payroll practices.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.

Skills Required

  • 7+ years of payroll experience with increasing responsibility.
  • 3+ years of project, program, or M&A integration management experience.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-country payroll operations, compliance, and controls.
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll platforms (Workday, ADP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience leading payroll integrations during acquisitions or divestitures.
  • Experience working in a shared services or global business services organization.
