Overview

TNS is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and inspiring, technical manager of our Global NMS team. This is a full-time technical leadership role overseeing the growth of our highly productive global team of smart and engaged NMS Engineers. This is a mid-level management role reporting into the Operations Management Office who in turn reports to Chief Network Officer.

Responsibilities

In Summary the NMS Manager role is responsible for:

  • Complete ownership of operational delivery, maintenance, support, and performance governance of the following NMS products in TNS:

- Observability

- Data (Metric & Log) Collection

- Event Management

  • Partnering with our Business Units (Product, Development & Sales Consulting) and IT (Automation, NOC, Enterprise Business Systems & Security, Technical Delivery, Service Transition Management) functional owners to ensure we have, and are executing against, short, medium, and long-term mutually beneficial and aligned strategy for the NMS product set.

  • Providing supervisory responsibilities for the people in the NMS team including vision & cultural leadership, performance management, resource capacity management & people development with the objectives of Continuous Improvement and delivering on our Peace of Mind Vision to Our Customers, our Business Units, and our Employees.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and implementation of all network management (Observability, Data Collection, and Event management) systems.

  • Works to ensure all deliverables adhere to deadlines, specifications, and budgets.

  • Develops and implements performance metrics to drive efficiencies, reduce waste, and increase quality through the reduction of reduce human error and operating expense across Operations.

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a mix of new and seasoned engineers located globally who provide 24x7 support.

  • Responsible for providing technology leadership to the business and to the NMS organization in planning and strategy, architecture vision, deployment, management, and operation of essential NMS Systems, including server infrastructure, cloud computing, leveraging artificial intelligence, disaster recovery, and system security.

  • In collaboration with NMS and Enterprise Architects set the strategy for NMS infrastructure and software capabilities for current and future organizational needs. You will have complete knowledge of our data center, network architecture, and critical applications. This is a key responsibility for effectively leveraging current investments and planning for significant transitions.

  • You will help change the way NMS operates, bring your ideas on how to increase productivity and efficiency across all service domains, and focus NMS resources on strategic business needs.

  • Approach all that NMS do with an Automation first mindset. Partner, in lock step, with the Automation team to enable automation tools that automate the visibility, troubleshooting, reporting and maintenance of virtual and physical network device configurations, supporting opportunities to lower cost, reduce human error and improve compliance and configuration policies.

  • Manage vendors, consultants, and overall budget for NMS Team.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant people management experience; the successful candidate will have moved through progressively senior roles with sequentially greater responsibility and success.

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant network management systems experience, with demonstrated competency in strategy development, execution, and implementation of technology as well as strong governance over day-to-day operations.

  • Understanding of data collection mechanisms through SNMP, Syslog, agent based, Open Telemetry.

  • Experience with integrating solutions in a multi-vendor environment, including SaaS environments.

  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience in the development and execution of business cases.

  • Proven leader with a demonstrated ability to lead and influence the direction of large-scale enterprises.

  • Strategic influencer who drives agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to attract, build, mentor and direct a high-performing cohesive and well-integrated team.

  • Strong understanding of operational problems typically encountered in large scale deployments in telecommunications networks and ability to anticipate for and mitigate the risks of occurrence of such problems.

  • Experience managing Global teams.

  • Experience in the development of intelligent Network Automation with automation tools in LAN/WAN, data center, cloud, and wireless networks.

  • Familiar with software systems based on PHP and Perl, relational database schema design and working knowledge of Linux/Unix/Solaris platforms.

  • Familiar with architecture and provision of MPLS network and services

 

System Specific Experience with:

  • Netreo / SolarWinds / ThousandEyes

  • Splunk Cloud, Observability, ITSI and Enterprise Security

  • Network Automation & Orchestration Software/Tools – Nautobot, Ansible AWX, Mulesoft, Rundeck

  • Large scale Syslog & SNMP Event management/aggregation systems

For this role, we anticipate paying $138,000-$168,000 annually. Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location. TNS offers a competitive benefit package including medical and dental coverage, life insurance, paid holidays and vacations, and a 401K plan with company match. For UK based candidates’ compensation and benefits will be discussed as part of the interview process.
