Job Description Summary:

Provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and technical direction for the enterprise network and telecommunications infrastructure supporting a large, multi-hospital healthcare system. Leads a team of network and telecommunications engineers responsible for the planning, design, implementation, project management, and lifecycle management of complex network, voice, wireless, and telecommunications solutions across 200+ ambulatory, administrative, and clinical locations, including 16 hospitals.
This includes support for newly constructed facilities, growth initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and infrastructure modernization efforts. Based on the original role scope of leading implementation of network and telecommunications technologies to 200+ locations.
Establishes strategic technology direction for enterprise connectivity, network services, telecommunications platforms, and associated operational processes to ensure high levels of availability, performance, security, scalability, and recoverability. Evaluates emerging technologies, develops long-term infrastructure roadmaps, and oversees the delivery of complex, multi-year initiatives that directly support patient care, clinical operations, and business objectives.
Provides leadership for architecture governance, vendor management, capital planning, budgeting, project portfolio management, and IT service management processes. Partners closely with clinical, operational, and Information Services leadership to align technology investments with organizational priorities. Drives operational excellence through continuous process improvement, automation, AI-enabled tools, and adherence to industry and healthcare technology best practices. Based on the role's responsibility for architecture reviews, strategic technology direction, ITIL processes, and automation.
This is a hybrid position in Columbus, OH.

Responsibilities And Duties:

Determines strategic direction of enterprise desktop, server, storage, data management, database technologies, and/or data center operations in conjunction with other Information Services leadership in support of OhioHealth corporate goals. Evaluates, recommends, and implements best practices and technologies for the cost-effective management of enterprise servers and data. Recommends and implements high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for critical systems.

Reviews and evaluates client requests for new projects, production support, and new or updated software or hardware. Determines technical requirements and coordinates schedules and related departmental activities related to implementation of such requests.

Establishes capacity, performance, availability, and recoverability requirements for strategic and departmental projects.

Coordinates and evaluates work of technical staff and prepares performance reviews. Projects long-range staffing and budget requirements.

Establishes effective infrastructure policies and procedures. Establish service offerings.

  • Bachelor's Degree OR Equivalent Experience
  • Field of Study: Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Years of experience: 10+ years in Information Technology demonstrating increased responsibilities

  • 5+ years of direct people leadership experience managing network, telecommunications, or infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting large integrated healthcare systems, academic medical centers, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.

  • Experience presenting technology strategy, business cases, and project updates to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Industry certifications such as PMP, ITIL, CCNP/CCIE, CWNP, or equivalent leadership and technical credentials preferred.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Expert knowledge of enterprise networking technologies including routing, switching, wireless networking, software-defined networking, telecommunications systems, voice platforms, network security, cloud connectivity, and data center networking architectures. Proven experience designing and supporting highly available, geographically dispersed healthcare networks supporting mission-critical clinical applications.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams responsible for large-scale infrastructure deployment and project delivery across multiple locations while balancing operational support, strategic initiatives, and organizational priorities. Strong understanding of project management methodologies, portfolio management, infrastructure architecture, systems integration, and technology lifecycle management.

Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, cybersecurity frameworks, disaster recovery planning, business continuity practices, and operational resiliency standards. Experience developing enterprise standards, governance processes, service offerings, and operational metrics.

Strong financial and business acumen with experience managing departmental budgets, capital planning, forecasting, contract negotiations, vendor management, cost-benefit analyses, and strategic technology sourcing. Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders, clinical leadership, business partners, and technology teams.

Experience leveraging automation, orchestration, analytics, and AI technologies to improve operational efficiency, service quality, deployment consistency, and team productivity. Builds high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
