Job Description

Responsible for managing market risk exposures within United Overseas Bank Ltd, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk policies, and supporting the overall risk management framework.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain market risk policies, procedures, and methodologies in line with regulatory expectations (e.g., Basel III, MAS requirements) and best industry practices.
  • Monitor and analyze market risk exposures across various asset classes (e.g., interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, commodities) and products (e.g., derivatives, bonds, structured products).
  • Perform stress testing and scenario analysis to assess the impact of adverse market movements on the bank's portfolio and capital adequacy.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive market risk reports to senior management, risk committees, and regulators, highlighting key risk trends, exposures, and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with front office, middle office, and back office teams to ensure accurate risk capture, valuation, and reporting of market risk positions.
  • Oversee the limit setting and monitoring process for market risk, ensuring adherence to approved limits and escalating breaches as necessary.
  • Participate in the review and approval of new products and complex transactions, providing expert advice on market risk implications.
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of market risk systems and infrastructure, including model validation and data quality initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members on market risk concepts, methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Keep abreast of market developments, regulatory changes, and emerging risk issues relevant to market risk management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in market risk management, preferably within a financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, products, and risk management concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of market risk methodologies, including VaR, stress testing, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., Basel III, MAS requirements) and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in risk management systems and tools (e.g., Murex, Kondor+, Bloomberg).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex risk concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional certifications such as FRM or CFA are highly desirable.
