About the role
This position is directly responsible for leading the CA based Transportation Operations team through daily business activities and continuous improvement opportunities. This role ensures that both immediate and short-term operational requirements of the CA Transportation network and North American rail operations are being met by partnering with carriers, 3PL and McCain facility DCs, McCain Customer Service and Deployment teams. This role is responsible for balancing McCain CA Transportation budgeted freight spend against delivering to our business target service level/KPI. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the long-term strategy for rail operations.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Manage team's escalations of carrier challenges and coach team through them. Through efforts delivered by team, hold carrier partners accountable for service performance: on-time pickup and delivery, tender acceptance rate to awarded lanes, routing guide compliance, carrier providing shipment status notifications within allotted time, etc. Build carrier relations to strengthen partnership, visit DCs for operational review. Prepare and lead QBR discussions with carriers. Back up US based Transportation Manager- 40%
- Hold team accountable for delivery of results while also pushing for continuous improvement opportunities, SCA ideation including estimating savings and delivery execution, and on-going support of existing and future releases of systems, tools and processes. Ensure team fully uses TMS system for freight consolidation, mode selection, tendering, management of freight throughout load life cycle, capturing all costs associated with McCain managed freight spend within TMS tool, visible through TMS reporting. Hold team accountable for freight spend as budgeted. This position will be responsible for ensuring that lanes awarded by Logistics Procurement team are properly executed by Transportation Operations team via TMS including exercising correct rates, capacities and routing guides. Track and monitor customer policy infractions related to carriers and McCain shipping DC's. Partner with McCain Commercial team on customer adoption of new/revised customer policies related to Transportation. Participate in ISC Finance meetings, carrier QBR, lead regular operations meetings with key stakeholders in Customer Service and Deployment/Procurement teams. Lead customer Hyper care as requested by leadership- 35%
- Demonstrate McCain Leadership Principles and Practices. Accountable for succession plan / career path and training (growth) opportunities for direct reports. Lead for engagement of direct reports, including timely communication, feedback, recognition, fostering trust, etc-15%
- Provide input on distribution modeling / recommendations for improving service and cost within NA Logistics network. Contribute to AOC annual budgeting, annual RFP with Logistics Procurement team, Fiscal Year Logistics team objectives including priority setting, KPI's and targets that become team's focus for which they will be performance rated against. May assist with collection of required supporting materials for annual audit- 10%
Requirements:
Academic:
- Must have:
o Bachelors degree in Business, Logistics, Finance, or Supply Chain or applicable field coupled with experience in Logistics and/or Supply Chain
- Nice to have:
o Masters/advanced degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain or related and applicable field
Related Work Experience (Internal to the organization or external):
- Must have :
o Minimum of three to five years Logistics/Transportation experience required
o Prior supervisory experience required
- Nice to have:
o Experience in Warehousing, Dispatch, WMS/TMS, 4Kites, Dock Scheduling and/or Finance role
o Experience in frozen food storage & distribution industry
Working Relationships and Key Contacts:
- Internal:
1 Customer Service Manager: Ensure servicing of McCain managed freight to align carrier delivery to RDD and on time appt.
2 Supply Chain Planning and Deployment Managers: Ensure proper daily utilization of established DC level dock appts and carrier capacity to cover STO for servicing business requirements.
3 ISC Finance Manager: Partner on reporting and understanding financial impact resulting from business and team decisions related to freight and warehousing spend.
- External
1 Carrier Partners: Resolve escalated transportation related issues. Forge mutual partnership by adhering to awarded volume through routing guide adherence.
2 3PL and internal Whse Partners: Coordinate efforts with 3PL operations team re: dock appt availability to accommodate carrier and service requirements to ensure scheduled outbound and inbound trucks stay on schedule.
3 Customers: Assist Customer Service team with problem solving as relates to deliveries.

- Good understanding of SAP, specifically inventory management and order creation through post-goods issue

Compensation Package : $97,500.00 - $130,000.00 USD annually + bonus eligibility
The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
