Headquartered in New York with offices in Beijing, Boston, Brussels, Dallas, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Luxembourg, Palo Alto, San Francisco, São Paulo, Singapore, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., the Firm provides coordinated legal advice and transactional capability to clients around the globe.

The Client Development & Engagement (CDE) function sits at the heart of the Firm’s growth strategy, bringing together business development, marketing, events and communications. The team leverages data, insights, and creative problem solving to help Partners drive sustained growth through repeatable excellence and differentiated client experience.

Job Summary

This is a high-impact opportunity to partner with senior litigators and the Litigation Client Development & Engagement (CDE) team, helping to showcase the Litigation Department and underlying practices and deepen directories relationships, rankings growth and profile raising through strategic litigation award submissions.

The Manager, Litigation Legal Directories & Rankings is a critical role in support of Simpson Thacher’s market leading Litigation Department, responsible for leading litigation submission content strategy across all major legal directories — Chambers, Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation, IFLR, GCR, GIR, and liaising with the firm’s litigators on key awards. This role partners closely with senior members of the CDE team and key litigators, showcasing STB’s exceptional litigation, investigations, and regulatory matter work through tailored submissions and awards development in an effort to achieve rankings and recognitions that reflect our leading market position.

In this capacity, the Manager, Litigation Legal Directories & Rankings will report to the Firm’s Director of Client Development & Engagement for Litigation and work in close coordination with the CDE Litigation and Communications teams and broader CDE Department. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with direct partner interaction and meaningful exposure to Litigation Department leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Elevate the Litigation Department’s directories, rankings and awards strategy to help build brand recognition to contribute to the Department’s overall growth strategy

  • Manage the Litigation CDE team’s deadlines, submission drafts, reference outreach, researcher interviews, and results tracking across relevant practices

  • Serve as the primary connective layer between the Litigation CDE team and the submissions and deadline process — ensuring that matter flow, client relationships and market narratives captured day-to-day are translated into compelling submissions

  • Collaborate with STB partners, practice group leaders and Litigation CDE team members to develop matter narratives, surface the right client references, and position the Department’s work in a favorable way

  • Manage the researcher interview process for Litigation Department submissions from prep through debrief — supporting prep calls, attending where appropriate, and documenting outcomes to inform future cycles

  • Build and maintain a centralized litigation matter and best practices database that functions as a year-round strategic asset, not a deadline scramble — integrated with CDE’s broader corpus, CRM infrastructure, and matter database.

  • Track and benchmark the Litigation Department’s (and competitors) rankings; brief CDE Litigation team and relevant partners on results and trends

  • Advise and train CDE Litigation colleagues and partners on how directories, relevant rankings submissions and awards processes work, what drives movement, and how STB’s work compares to our peers in key practice areas

  • Coordinate with STB’s Communications function on results announcements and internal visibility of ranking outcomes. Provide up to date information for the Communications team to leverage for relevant awards

  • Work with stakeholders in other departments and in other offices as needed

  • Support Client Development projects and other Firm initiatives as needed

  • Perform additional duties as needed

  • Exceptional writer capable of turning complex matters into clear, differentiated narratives under deadline pressure

  • Good judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to problem solve

  • Strong project manager who can run an annual calendar for the Litigation Department

  • Familiarity with litigation, investigations, and regulatory disputes matters
