As the Manager, Learning & Development, you will be responsible for creating a learning culture to enhance capabilities and drive the success of our people and business globally. You will work closely with senior leaders across the business to identify learning & development opportunities within both corporate and retail, bringing to life effective and engaging programs for all business units. You will translate our strategic business needs into learning and development programs that are values-based, people-centric and aligned with our business goals.

The Learning & Development and Organizational Effectiveness team operates in strategic partnership with the business, driving the continuous learning and development of people and leadership practices and fostering a culture that generates high performance teams, strengths-based coaching, and values-based leadership.
This position is based in Roppongi, Tokyo, with a hybrid working environment (3 days onsite - 2 days at home). Candidates must be eligible to work in Japan. Some travel may also require of this role to visit retail stores locally in Japan, and must be bilingual with the ability to read, speak, and write fluently in Japanese and English.
If you were the Manager, Learning & Development now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
- Collaborating with the Director, P&C – APAC for developing the learning strategy and roadmap for the Japan business and providing strategic insights and solutions to leaders on learning priorities and needs
- Overseeing and delivering a broad range of training, including leadership and career development, professional skills, functional training, technical training, and elective learning
- Executing onboarding program for the Japan teams, being the first source of truth for how we work and play together while showcasing our values
- Localizing global programming for effective implementation and training, working with global teams to meet local language standards
- Regionalizing program design, development, and management for learning initiatives including BIRDu (our global L&D framework), Leadership Development, Masterclass series, and Talent Acceleration programs
- Managing all existing learning technologies (LMS & Authoring tools) and leveraging future technologies as needs arise
- Leading all functional partnerships across the Japan business as it relates to training and people development
- Overseeing data tracking and regular reporting with senior stakeholders and key functional partners of the effectiveness of learning programs
- Maintaining new and ongoing relationships with external vendors and networks to ensure currency and relevancy of training industry trends and best practices
- Negotiating contracts and overseeing the delivery of training programs by external providers to ensure high quality and impactful delivery and outcomes.

Are you our next Manager, Learning & Development?
You have a post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business or related field
You have experience in the retail and/or hospitality industry
You have 5+ years’ experience in learning and development with a proven track record of follow through to achieve results
You are an experienced and inspiring people leader and coach with a genuine passion for developing others
You have a strong understanding of adult learning theories & instructional design
You have experience implementing and supporting learning technologies (LMS, authoring tools, enable now, articulate suite, etc.)
You have a strong ability to strategically influence and persuade leaders
You have strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
You have the ability to partner effectively with different levels of the organization, including executive leadership
You are a strong and engaging facilitator
You have experience planning and managing a budget
You have strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of learning initiatives and programs
