Sr. Business Development Manager, Integrated Project Solutions – Configuration & Process Consultancy

Job Description:

The Senior Manager leads a team of experienced professionals within UOP’s Configuration & Process Consultancy, known as the UOP Integrated Project Solutions group or IPS.  The group’s mission is to improve client value generation through complex configuration, integration, and optimization assessments that help our customers make the right investment decisions for their business. The group also helps drive UOP’s continued innovation in the Refinery of the Future (ROTF), Crude to Chemicals (COTC), Sustainability and New Product Initiatives (NPIs) or Next Big Bet (NBB) initiatives.  IPS lies within our Sales organization but coordinates and collaborates with across the entire Process Technologies business unit, which consists of UOP’s broad and deep technology portfolio in refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and renewables.  This role reports to the UOP’s Senior Director, Business Development.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of this position include:

  • Lead the department’s process configuration capabilities with a drive to improve UOP’s value creation for customer inquiries. This includes supporting business development and sales through early engagement, optimizing UOP offers in response to customer Invitations to Bid (ITBs), developing value-added alternative configurations in response to ITBs and developing game changing configurations when UOP is disadvantaged in existing ITBs. 
  • Conduct relevant market studies and technology evaluations to quantify industry needs. This includes support for the launch of new technologies and analysis of how UOP should respond to emerging government policy and environmental mandates.
  • Present at conferences on thought leadership in COTC and ROTF, and present client-project configuration study results.  
  • Drive innovation through the development of novel integration and optimization schemes. This includes business case development associated with emerging technological needs and capturing these novel schemes as relevant IP (intellectual property) for future monetization. 
  • Liaise with external market consultants (Wood Mackenzie, S&P Global, Stratas Advisors, Chemical Market Analytics, Rystad Energy), alliance firms, and cooperative firms (Wood, Worley, Pathfinder) to improve our ability to execute Configuration Studies and Bankability Analyses.  
  • Drive development of improved capabilities for rapid economic analysis of new and existing technologies. This includes working with software tools such as PetroPlan, AVEVA Spiral, UniSim, etc. to enable rapid screening of options.
  • Manage resources located in Rosemont, IL, Bracknell, UK, & Saudi Arabia.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 15 years of experience in refining or petrochemicals technologies
  • Functional experience in oil refinery operations level Linear Program (LP) Modeling

  • Consulting experience in the Refining, Petrochemicals and Renewables space (Jacobs, Worley, Solomon, Wood Mackenzie, Green Star BCS, Becht Engineering, ) 
  • Experience in production planning 
  • Experience in asset management or strategic planning
  • Thought leadership in downstream and key emerging industry areas like crude to chemicals and sustainability
  • Master of Business Administration or equivalent
  • Customer / Project Sales experience
  • Business exposure across two or more of: Refining / PetChem / Gas Processing / Equipment / Manufacturing / Products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other internal and external groups

Anticipated travel up to 25%.
