WHO YOU ARE

As the Manager Governance you are key in assisting AGU accomplish its mission to promote discovery in Earth and space sciences for the benefit of humanity by being operational in its focus.

You will support the Vice President, Leadership & Governance with managing governance operations, to collaborate with the Director, Executive Office, the Chief of Staff,  and the Senior Leadership team across the organization on strategic initiatives; implement strategic plan goals and objectives within the Executive Office and across AGU; coordinate, maintain, and improve organizational and operational aspects between Governance and departments; develop workflows and refine processes to ensure seamless communication on confidential matters; and coordinate Board and Council meetings. You will report to the Director, Executive Office.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support the Vice President, Leadership & Governance in managing and coordinating program priorities and developing short-term and long-range planning. Identify areas of improvement within these functions and reports recommendations to leadership. Organize and manages annual Governance workflows, initiatives, and activities, and identifies areas of improvement.
  • Support Governance-related activities, including collaboration with the Vice President, Leadership & Governance on Board, Council, and Council Leadership Team (CLT) agendas, supporting materials, meeting management process, and timeline for packet deadlines and prep and debrief calls.
  • Manage the logistical and technical aspects for the Board, Council, and other Governance meetings, travel coordination, dinners, reimbursements, and organize meeting materials on Google Drive. Prepare Senior Staff for the virtual and in-person Governance meetings.
  • Support Vice President, Leadership & Governance on financial planning, budgeting, and tracking.
  • Partner with the Director, Executive Office on resource needs and staffing support for Board and Council convenings and logistical coordination for AGU’s Annual Meeting. Collaborate, train, and update the Executive Office team on Governance-related activities and onsite assignments for meetings.
  • Serve as a point of contact for outside vendors or consultants on Governance projects or initiatives that require independent assessment or guidance. Communicate with volunteer leadership on time-sensitive issues that require an efficient response.
  • Serve as back-up support in the absence of the Vice President, Leadership & Governance regarding any inquiries or urgent requests from leadership. Serve as back-up support for the biannual elections and coordination of additional activities that require Senior Leadership Team input and engagement.
  • Evaluate and implement technological solutions to streamline work of the Council.
  • Monitor the Governance email account in Outlook.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with volunteer boards and governance processes, including preparing agendas, motions, minutes, and maintaining official association records.
  • Experience working with organizational administration, operations and processes.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit management, change management, volunteer management, leadership development, and/or organizational development.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, research, plan, manage, and complete multiple projects on deadline in a fast-paced environment. Ability to collaborate with multiple teams across an organization as well as external stakeholders.
  • Ability to project a professional demeanor while interacting with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures and different professional levels.
  • Ability to exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters, and to maintain high level of confidentiality, included but not limited to strategic planning initiatives, contracts, budgeting, and personnel matters.
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 software, Monday.com, Video Conferencing (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).

  • Extended working hours and travel (up to 5%) may be necessary.

  • Full Time, Exempt position. This remote role is open to candidates living in many U.S. states (excluding WA, OR, and CA at this time).
  • The salary range for this position is Min. $75,096 Mid. $100,128 Max. $125,160
