Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Compliance Manager to lead import customs duty mitigation strategies with a primary focus on civil aircraft exemptions, aerospace trade programs, and tariff reduction initiatives. This role will serve as a key subject matter expert supporting global import operations, customs compliance, and cost savings strategies across aerospace programs and supply chains.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in U.S. Customs regulations, aerospace-specific duty exemptions, HTS classification, Free Trade Agreements, and special tariff programs impacting civil aircraft and related parts. This individual will partner cross-functionally with Global Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and external customs brokers to ensure compliant and strategic import operations.
What You Will Do:
Lead customs duty mitigation initiatives focused on civil aircraft programs and aerospace-related tariff exemptions.
Manage and support compliance strategies involving: Civil Aircraft Agreement eligibility HTS classification and tariff engineering Section 301, Section 232, and IEEPA mitigation opportunities USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements Temporary importation and repair/return programs (e.g., 9801, 9802, TIB)Drawback and other customs recovery programs
Provide strategic guidance on import declarations, country of origin, valuation, and preferential trade claims.
Review and validate HTS classifications and special tariff provisions applicable to aerospace products and components.
Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for duty savings, process improvements, and risk reduction.
Support audits, disclosures, broker management activities, and government inquiries related to customs compliance.
Develop and maintain import compliance procedures, work instructions, and internal controls.
Monitor regulatory changes impacting aerospace imports and communicate business impacts to leadership.
Support implementation and optimization of trade compliance processes within ERP systems such as SAP and customs platforms.
Deliver training and guidance to cross-functional teams on customs compliance and duty mitigation strategies.
Interface with customs brokers, outside counsel, government agencies, and industry groups as required.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
5+ years of experience in import customs compliance, global trade, or international logistics.
Strong knowledge of: U.S. Customs regulations and import processes HTS classification and tariff application Aerospace customs programs and Civil Aircraft Agreement exemptions
Qualifications We Prefer:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, Legal Studies, or related field.
Duty mitigation strategies and trade agreements
Experience working within complex manufacturing or aerospace environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret regulations and apply them operationally.
Experience collaborating with customs brokers and government agencies.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) preferred.
Experience in aerospace, aviation, or defense industries strongly preferred.
Familiarity with SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) or similar ERP/trade systems.
Knowledge of EAR/ITAR and broader import/export compliance concepts.
Experience managing audits, post-entry corrections, protests, or customs disclosures.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
