Leads and manages MCW’s Budget function within Financial Planning and Analysis, overseeing the annual budget process, central funds modeling, and monthly variance reporting. Partners with the Associate Director of Budget to advance institutional budgetary strategy and financial planning priorities, while supervising and developing a team of financial analysts to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of MCW’s budget deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities  
  • Lead preparation for MCW’s annual budget cycle, including system configuration, calendar development, and documentation for budget entry, ensuring departments are equipped to submit timely, accurate budgets. 

  • Directly manage budget support for the most complex departments with multiple missions/lines of business (e.g., clinical, basic science, etc.), while supervising and directing the financial analysts who support all other departments. Serve as the primary point of contact and escalation point for budgetary questions and concerns across the Budget function. 

  • Proactively measure and report key business trends that will impact financial results. 

  • Direct ad hoc financial analyses (e.g., cost savings initiatives, reimbursement modeling, service-line profitability, etc.), assigning and reviewing work across the analyst team to ensure rigor and timeliness of deliverables. 

  • Act as a business advisor and partner with departments to develop innovative solutions to solve financial pressures (cost reduction and revenue optimization). 

  • Review, interpret, analyze, and make recommendations of annual and ad hoc budget submissions. 

  • Measure and report key business trends that will impact financial results. 

  • Provide support, training, and guidance of department budgetary system. 

  • Examine, communicate, implement, and resolve discrepancies between budget and finance information. Act as a point of escalation for discrepancies or concerns. 

  • Monitor initiative success and provide insight and recommendations to improve success, as necessary. 

  • Drive and oversee system enhancements to improve financial planning and analysis systems and processes. 

This position is 100% remote. All remote work must be performed within one of the MCW registered payroll states, which currently includes: WI, AL, AZ, DE, FL,

GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, TN, TX, and UT

Ability to listen critically to solicit ideas from operational participants at all levels of the organization to develop solutions that are owned and valued by the operational end users. 

Willingness to understand how systems and applications supporting the business processes work. Can communicate effectively with technical IT/IS staff to convey business processes and requirements. Is familiar with infrastructure set-up and how various pieces fit together. 

Strong technical analytical skills. Mastery of Microsoft Excel. 

Avid attention to detail with the ability to understand and integrate detail with the big picture. 

Ability to effectively manage others. 

 

Qualifications 

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

 

Minimum Required Education:        Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field 

Minimum Required Experience:       7-10 years 

Preferred Education:                 Master’s preferred 

Preferred Experience:               Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field required

 

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

 

Work Environment 

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. 

 

Sensory Acuity 

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.

Target salary range for this position is between $108,300.00 and $139,800.00 annually. The final offered salary will depend on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and knowledge, as well as considerations of internal equity and market alignment.
