About The Position

The Manager DDC-Field Engineering is responsible for all field engineering activities as assigned by the Regions, including the direct supervision of management engineers, and the recruitment, training, development, and appraisal of all DDC field engineering personnel and the coordination of their work with construction and operating personnel, customers, and other Ameren departments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure outstanding safety results by participating in department safety activities, generating ideas for improved safety performance, utilizing all proper personal protective equipment, and ensure safety is considered in gas and electric designs
  • Provide department leadership to employees within the department focusing on company goals and measures; developing department goals and measures; and maintaining monthly performance scorecard.
  • Have oversight of Ameren's NESC Violations corrective actions process.
  • Provide assistance and technical support to engineers, Engineering Representatives, and Distribution Design Specialists/Associates for the proper application of rates, rules/regulations and policies, and project coordination from design to construction. This may include analyzing customer requirements, specifying needed company facilities, and assuring tasks are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Provide direction on and identify project assignments, development of accurate project field notes and ensure that all project administration and work order requirements are followed.
  • Provide engineering, technical, and operations support to Region's construction and operating personnel, other departments, customers, and outside organizations.
  • Keep up to date with emerging industry topics and best practices.
  • Analyze trends in deficiencies observed and coordinate with training to make related training improvements.
  • Provide feedback to employees on individual performance. Monitor individual performance of direct reports and make recommendations for improvement. Deliver coaching, counseling, and discipline, when necessary. Maintain working files for each direct report.
  • Provide support for storm assessment efforts, organize field checker assignments, dispatch field checkers, update outage orders in OAS, communicates with DDC Storm Manager.
  • Identify and implement improvements in department operations to control cost and improve quality and productivity

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, GIS, Construction Management, Project Management, Leadership or related technical field plus five or more years of relevant experience (e.g., engineering, design or construction experience on electric or gas distribution lines, GIS, Computer-Aided Drafting, or distributed generation interconnections like solar and wind) required OR an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, GIS, Computer-Aided Drafting, Construction Management, Project Management or related technical field and seven years of relevant experience required. Nine years of relevant experience may be considered without required bachelor's or associate degree.

Three years of supervisory or team leadership experience required

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

The Manager DDC-Field Engineering works a standard day shift, normally in an office environment. The position may also require on-site field job site visits to advise engineers or consultants Ameren technical specifications for electric or gas system job development. The position will include overtime and 24 hour callouts during system disturbances to assist and direct emergency restoration. Travel and over-night accommodations may be an occasional requirement of the position.

Knowledge of construction standards, materials, operating policies, Standards & Qualifications and computer applications (Microsoft Office, OAS, MAXIMO, etc.) utilized for distribution. Must possess good organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Must have demonstrated leadership behaviors with the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly across multiple organizations, solve problems decisively, and be proactive and self-motivated to identify improvement opportunities, establish priorities and meet deadlines; and the following Ameren competencies: Be Strategic, Continuously Improve, Deliver Results, Engage Respectfully, Foster Collaboration, and Think Customer.
