The Manager of Federal Government and Industry Relations reports to the Senior Director of Federal Government and Industry Relations and supports the execution of Land O’Lakes’ policy and engagement strategy at the federal level; helps develop and coordinate legislative priorities and strategic engagement plans; assists in planning and supporting meetings and events that elevate the company’s policy voice; prepares materials and briefings for corporate and business unit leadership on policy developments; builds and maintains productive relationships with elected officials, policy staff, Land O’Lakes leadership and members, and the broader business community; and collaborates with corporate and business unit partners to support messaging and strategies that advance key policy priorities and enhance awareness of our brands.
This role is located at our Washington DC office (in office 3-4 days each week)
Responsibilities:
Federal Advocacy Strategy and Policy Advancement
· Implement lobbying strategies to achieve company goals and advance Land O’Lakes’ federal policy priorities.
· Coordinate with the Land O’Lakes Federal Affairs team, consultants, and lobbyists to position and drive progress on key policy issues.
· Support connections between corporate leadership and key policy, decision, and influence makers at the federal level.
Congressional Engagement and Policy Intelligence
· Meet routinely with Members of Congress and Congressional staff to advocate for Land O’Lakes and its policy positions.
· Represent Land O’Lakes positions to policymakers in Congress and the administration.
· Gather policy intelligence and insights to inform company decision makers and support strategic advocacy efforts.
Stakeholder Partnerships and Executive Communications.
· Maintain and develop partnerships and relationships with internal stakeholders, industry groups, and federal government officials.
· Prepare senior executives for board meetings and key stakeholder engagements.
· Communicate policy updates and recommendations through written memos, oral briefings, slide presentations, and public speaking opportunities
Policy Analysis, Reporting and Legislative Updates
· Analyze policy implications, risks, and opportunities for affected stakeholders and business leaders.
· Communicate relevant legislative developments and opportunities to senior management and cooperative leaders.
Grassroots Engagement and Member Advocacy Support
· Support grassroots engagement opportunities that advance federal legislative priorities.
· Enable Land O’Lakes members, executives, and staff to engage effectively with policy leaders.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, agriculture, public policy, government relations, or related field.
· 7+ years of relevant experience in government relations, federal affairs, lobbying, legislative affairs, public policy, or trade association work.
· Experience working with Congress, federal agencies, or federal policymaking processes; House of Representatives experience preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to develop policy positions, advocacy strategies, stakeholder engagement plans, and legislative briefings.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including memo writing, executive briefing preparation, presentation development, and public speaking.
· Ability to build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, industry partners, internal business leaders, and cooperative members.
· Agriculture, cooperative, food, rural policy, or agribusiness experience preferred.
$107,680-$161,520. In most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of our salary ranges.
