Job Summary

Become the leader of a team which will play a critical role in infusing Red Hat products with generative AI. Our aim is to develop a platform other teams at Red Hat will use to quickly and easily develop virtual assistants for Red Hat products and we seek an engineering manager to lead the team which will make this happen. Be prepared to work in an environment which is largely unshaped and very fast paced, adding a bit of startup freshness and agility to our corporate stability. In this role, your set of responsibilities will be broader than in similar roles: this engineering manager will have to be a strong partner to the technical lead: together, they will be the face of the team for the stakeholders and they will also steer the direction of the team, including its priorities as well as development and quality of the project. This is a very high profile project and the position is critical to the project's future success. It includes a lot of flexibility and therefore requires a highly motivated and self-driven person.
Primary Job Responsibilities

Evolve and manage a high-performing software development team

Serve as a people manager for your team with responsibility for guiding objectives, providing feedback, fostering career development, and providing active coaching of associates

Guide positive change within dynamics, relationships, systems and processes in the team by monitoring what works well and by identifying areas for improvement. Utilize data to monitor and assess operations, quality, & team health

Provide technical guidance, hands-on assistance, and promote team culture with an emphasis on security, quality, and engineering agility; remove barriers to enable the team to be productive

Identify opportunities for future team’s work, ensure that the team’s work is well planned and prioritized in alignment with the needs of team’s stakeholders and high level engineering strategy; use data to plan team’s work.

Ensure the delivery of timely, high quality results. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet business requirements through helping the team align with prioritized backlog, while contributing to technical solutions by helping to define user stories

Work with engineers and managers across multiple organizations to enable delivery of results which often require engagement of multiple teams
Required Skills
-
An engineering degree or higher, or equivalent in computer science or a related field
-
5+ years of software development experience and/or experience in managing distributed engineering teams in a Product based environment

Technical background in software development, ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with authority on a technical level

Experience with generative AI, at minimum as advanced user level

Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills

Excellent collaboration skills, applied successfully within a team as well as across teams

Excellent attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills; able to maintain solid rapport with team members as well as maintain professionalism with those outside of department

Excellent leadership, sound judgment, and business acumen skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Proficiency with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CICD)

Knowledge of quality concepts (e.g., functional testing, unit testing, integration testing)

Working knowledge of Agile or other appropriate software development principles and methodologies
Preferred skills

Experience with product management, product ownership or other role with responsibilities to manage backlog for the team and actively work with stakeholders of the team

Experience working with any major Red Hat products

Understanding of open source development models

Understanding the elementary concepts of generative AI like prompt tuning, prompt engineering, RAG, tokenization, chunking

The salary range for this position is $163,420.00 - $269,640.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
