About the role
The Manager, Policy and Market Regulation will be a key influencer and advocate for AGL’s Customer Markets, playing a critical role in regulatory design, development and market implementation.
The Corporate Affairs business unit aims to protect and enhance AGL's value, influence industry outcomes, and gather and disseminate critical information to stakeholders. Key external stakeholders include Governments, Regulators, Energy Market Authorities and Industry Peak Bodies.
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide.
What you’ll be doing
Strategic Regulatory Input
- Assist in the development of Customer Markets regulatory policies and strategies in consultation with relevant AGL business units.
- Work with the Senior Manager in the preparation and co-ordination of AGL’s submissions and responses to public consultation processes to bodies including (but not limited to the) AEMC, AER, ESC, Jurisdictional Governments.
Regulatory Development
- Work with other internal Regulatory teams to develop and deliver AGL’s regulatory engagement and advocacy strategy.
- Provide macro and micro regulatory advice as required, working closely with AGL’s Legal and Corporate Affairs teams to ensure AGL’s business risk is managed appropriately.
External Representation and Advocacy
- Use established external networks to build support for, and drive AGL’s strategic regulatory policies
- Liaise and negotiate with energy Regulators and Departments to drive AGL’s positions on Customer Markets issues.
- Build strong relationships and represent AGL at relevant industry body forums (including the AEC) and other Retailer businesses to achieve desired outcomes for AGL.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environment Systems and goals are introduced and adhered to while meeting the organisations policies and standards for HSE Management. Lead the organisation towards identify and implementing safer work place standards.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Law, Economics or Engineering discipline
- Strong understanding and experience within the Australian energy industry
- Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Effective project management skills
- Broad experience in dealing with energy sector regulators, government regulators and industry groups
- Demonstrated experience in developing strategic positions and influencing external stakeholders to deliver robust outcomes
- Experience in general business management and a sound understanding of business drivers
