Your team

You will be part of a small specialist team providing a significant positive impact for the Bank. You will be led by two Heads of Employee & Industrial Relations with a strategic focus. They will work closely to support you in your role where needed.

You will also be part of an engaging and collaborative People Department team, a group of specialists in their own areas of expertise with a similar goal to deliver the best outcomes for the Bank.

About the role

As Manager – Employee Relations, you will play a key role in navigating complex people matters and influencing leaders at all levels to find practical, fair and commercially sound solutions.

You will bring strong technical expertise from a similar role, along with sound judgement and a calm considered approach to complex and sensitive matters. You will provide trusted advice across a broad range of employee matters such as, workplace investigations, employee grievances, performance and disciplinary matters and external employment-related claims. Your role will see you work collaboratively with specialist teams across the Department including Wellbeing & Safety and People Partners.

You will have the opportunity to coach and mentor team members and peers across the broader People Department and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of employee relations frameworks, processes, training and governance practices. Additionally, you will work well in a small team, helping our leaders to make confident, compliant and people-centred decisions with an ability to provide accurate advice to influence the right commercial outcomes for the organisation. 

Your background

  • Demonstrated experience leading resolution of full range of employee relations matters.

  • Extensive experience at a senior level in employee relations roles.

  • Extensive experience developing, implementing and reviewing employee policies and employment arrangements.

  • Extensive knowledge of employment issues, risks and mitigation strategies.

  • Expert knowledge of employment legislation and regulatory requirements.

  • High level of integrity dealing with sensitive matters and a positive, professional demeanour with a passion for due diligence and reaching quality employee relations outcomes.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with experience in preparing detailed reports, correspondence and formal documentation.

  • Strong stakeholder management capability with an ability to communicate complexity to diverse stakeholder levels and actively listen to build a detailed understanding.

  • Well organised in working independently to manage multiple tasks and to thrive in an evolving environment.

  • Strong exposure to Fair Work Commission matters and employment related proceedings.

  • Support in industrial relations matters including enterprise agreement negotiation and disputes is highly desirable but not essential.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Law or related discipline or relevant experience.
