Job Summary
The Manager of Employee Relations is responsible for leading the organization’s employee relations programs, workplace investigations, HR compliance support, and policy administration. This role serves as a strategic partner to HR leadership, operational leaders, and executives to ensure consistent application of employment laws, company policies, and employee relations best practices across all Cantex business lines.
The position oversees complex employee relations matters, corrective action processes, performance management support, and compliance initiatives. This role also serves as the backup for Leave Management and Accommodation Administration, supporting ADA, FMLA, PWFA, and other leave‑related programs. The Manager of Employee Relations directly supervises the HR Business Partner – HR Compliance and plays a key role in mitigating risk, improving manager effectiveness, and fostering a positive and compliant workplace culture.
QualificationsQualifications
Preferred Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Employment Law, Organizational Development, or related field
Required Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience with significant employee relations responsibilities
• Experience conducting workplace investigations
• Experience interpreting and applying employment laws and HR policies
• Experience advising leaders on performance management and employee relations matters
Preferred Experience:
• Healthcare, senior care, or post‑acute care experience
• Multi‑site organizational experience
• Experience supporting ADA, FMLA, PWFA, and leave administration
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience
Preferred Certifications:
• SHRM‑SCP or SHRM‑CP
• SPHR or PHR
• Workplace Investigation Certification
• Employment Law or Employee Relations certifications
Essential Functions
Employee Relations Leadership
• Lead employee relations programs across all business lines
• Provide consultation to managers and HR staff regarding performance, conduct, attendance, and workplace concerns
• Review and advise on disciplinary actions, final warnings, suspensions, and terminations
• Ensure consistent application of company policies and practices
• Identify employee relations trends and recommend corrective and preventive strategies
• Support initiatives that improve employee engagement and retention
Workplace Investigations
• Conduct and oversee investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, ethics concerns, Code of Conduct violations, and employee complaints
• Prepare investigation findings and recommendations
• Partner with Legal Counsel on high‑risk employment matters
• Ensure investigations are completed thoroughly, consistently, and in a timely manner
Performance Management Support
• Partner with leaders to improve management effectiveness and accountability
• Provide guidance on performance improvement plans, coaching, documentation, progressive discipline, and employee development
• Train managers on effective performance management techniques
HR Compliance Management
• Oversee and provide guidance to the HR Business Partner – HR Compliance
• Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
• Assist with regulatory audits and compliance reviews
• Review and recommend updates to HR policies, procedures, and practices
• Support ethics, compliance, and risk mitigation initiatives
Leave Management & Accommodation Backup
• Serve as backup administrator for FMLA, ADA accommodations, PWFA accommodations, leave of absence programs, and the interactive process
• Assist with complex accommodation and leave‑related cases
• Ensure regulatory compliance and consistent administration of leave programs
• Partner with employees, providers, managers, and vendors throughout the accommodation process
Training & Leadership Support
• Develop and deliver training programs related to employee relations, investigations, performance management, documentation standards, employment law compliance, ADA/FMLA/PWFA administration, harassment prevention, ethics, and compliance
• Support leadership development initiatives focused on manager effectiveness and accountability
Strategic HR Partnership
• Collaborate with leaders across Skilled Nursing, Home Health, Hospice, Pharmacy, Therapy Services, and Corporate Operations
• Develop proactive solutions to workforce challenges
• Support organizational change initiatives and workforce planning efforts
