Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking an embedded software engineering manager in Weapons Systems. The manager will be responsible for the supervision of a subset of the Software Development team in the Armament Systems Embedded Software product area and will report to the embedded software engineering manager. This is a blended role such that the manager will also directly be supporting programs with embedded software engineering work.
Location:
This position requires on-site support. Selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance to our site in Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Management Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and coach a high performing team of 6-8 embedded software engineers.
- Provide oversight of direct reports responsible for project planning, specification, design, development, hardware / software, and software qualification.
- Collaborate with the senior manager to guide the entire team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle in support of programs.
- Support proposal generation and software process maintenance.
- Execute performance appraisals and career goal development.
- Participate in workload planning, staffing allocations, and hiring to ensure alignment to overall capability and capacity strategy of the team.
Program related Job Responsibilities may include any of the following:
- Software Design Engineering:
- Produce software specifications defining the capabilities and interfaces of each software item within a system.
- Develop real time embedded C/C++ code for Microchip, Atmel, or TI microprocessor/DSP.
- Generate and unit test code using IAR Integrated Development Environment, Code Composer or equivalent on a custom breadboard in a lab setting. Integrate multiple software items into a reliable working system.
- Software Test Engineering:
- Analyze and understand software requirements to generate a clear test plan and detailed test procedures.
- Develop automated test using LabVIEW & various lab equipment.
- Create PC support applications / tools using Visual Studio, MATLAB, LabVIEW, python, etc.
- Generate clear and professional plan, specification, design, test and release documentation per DoD standards.
- Participate in technical presentations at customer design or test readiness reviews.
- Concisely and accurately report technical details & status and document each phase of software development or software test.
- Generate clear and professional documentation; development / test plans, software / test descriptions and software release / test reports
- Follow CMMI compliant software processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar engineering degree
- 8+ years of experience developing embedded software following a structured process, performing software qualification test, or similar engineering experience. Will consider master’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of expereince
- Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle from proposal to delivery and support
- Strong understanding of quality system and software requirements and ability to capture clear and concise software requirements
- Experience leading a technical team toward successful product delivery
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
Salary Range: $120,800.00 - $181,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
