About the team and position

The Manager, Driver Safe and Secure (DOT Compliance) manages the day to day activities of Carvana's Driver Safe and Secure Risk Team. This team is responsible for ensuring DOT (Department of Transportation) compliance with all Carvana DOT regulated activity.  The Driver Safe and Secure Risk team focuses on compliance programs, driver improvement, driver qualification, supporting advanced analytics, and enabling ongoing business needs.  The Manager will help to develop, implement, and execute compliance programs, drive continuous improvement, and advocate for and report regularly on these programs. Experience and demonstrated problem solving skills will be important for the candidate’s success, but a dynamic personality including a culture fit with the team and the organization will be critical components.


What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the Driver Safe and Secure team and day to day operations focused on compliance and transportation safety improvement.
  • Oversee the success of meeting key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Serve as a contact point for Operations teams (Market Operations and Logistics) and leaders around compliance programs and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the overall Driver Safe and Secure function by tracking compliance activities and communicating status.
  • Oversee the use of the driver performance metrics and associated coaching activities.
  • Support the company around investigations related to collisions and defense of liability by working with internal Claims and Legal teams.
  • Assist in managing relationships with outside partners around DOT compliance and driving safety.  
  • Develop audit protocols to track performance of the Driver Safe and Secure team and operating groups. 
  • Provide monthly reports on compliance status and project progress.
  • Provide coaching and development to direct reports and other team members to support their continued growth and performance to meet team and company goals. 

What you should know/have 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • 4+ years experience in compliance and/or safety compliance. 
  • 2+ years experience leading/managing others. 
  • Experience in DOT or transportation safety. 
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Department of Transportation Regulations and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects/programs. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various teams and levels of leadership. 
  • Experience and eye for continuous improvement. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-focused mentality.
