This is a senior individual contributor role, not a people-management position. You will combine deep technical expertise in product analytics and experimentation with strong product judgment, cross-functional leadership, and analytical thought leadership.
You will own complex product problem spaces end to end, shape measurement and experimentation strategy, and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and business leaders to influence the evolution of the eBay Live buyer experience. You will also mentor junior data scientists and help raise the analytical bar across the team.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Analytics & Thought Leadership- Own analytics for strategic areas of the eBay Live buyer experience, spanning discovery, engagement, bidding, purchasing, conversion, and retention.
- Act as an analytics thought partner to Product leadership, proactively identifying opportunities and shaping product strategy through data.
- Define analytical frameworks, success metrics, and measurement approaches for complex and ambiguous product initiatives.
- Connect insights across the buyer journey to identify broader opportunities for engagement and sustainable growth.
- Lead the design and analysis of A/B tests and controlled experiments, including experiment design, metric selection, statistical analysis, and interpretation.
- Shape experimentation strategy for complex product changes, including situations involving network effects, interference, heterogeneous treatment effects, or other measurement challenges.
- Apply causal inference and quasi-experimental techniques when randomized experimentation is not possible.
- Establish rigorous measurement frameworks that enable confident product and investment decisions.
- Lead deep analytical investigations using funnels, cohorts, behavioral segmentation, statistical modeling, and other advanced techniques.
- Apply supervised and unsupervised learning where appropriate to understand buyer behavior, segmentation, propensity, and engagement.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and advanced analytics to improve buyer experiences and scale decision-making.
- Build reusable analytical frameworks and tools that increase the effectiveness of the broader team.
- Lead complex analytical initiatives involving Product, Engineering, Design, and business teams.
- Influence senior stakeholders through clear analytical reasoning, product judgment, and compelling storytelling.
- Drive alignment on metrics, experimental approaches, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
- Proactively identify important questions and opportunities rather than operating solely against incoming analytical requests.
- Mentor junior data scientists and analysts on experimentation, product analytics, problem solving, and stakeholder engagement.
- Review complex analyses and experiment readouts and help maintain a high bar for analytical rigor.
- Contribute to analytics standards, best practices, and foundational capabilities as eBay Live scales.
- 7–11 years of experience in data science, product analytics, or related analytics roles.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Deep hands-on expertise in product analytics, experimentation, and A/B testing.
- Strong understanding of statistics, experimental design, and causal inference.
- Experience applying advanced analytical or machine-learning techniques to large behavioral datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, ambiguous analytical problem spaces.
- Strong product intuition and ability to translate data into product strategy and recommendations.
- Proven ability to influence senior cross-functional stakeholders without formal authority.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior analytics professionals.
- Experience with e-commerce, marketplaces, consumer technology, or real-time products.
- Advanced experience with experimentation methodologies and causal measurement.
- Experience with segmentation, propensity modeling, personalization, or recommendation systems.
- Experience operating in 0→1 or rapidly scaling product environments.
- Experience applying AI/LLMs or agentic analytics to improve analytics productivity or customer experiences.
