The Manager, Data Engineering partners closely with the Director, Data Engineering – Data Foundations to execute technical strategy and lead the delivery of modern data engineering solutions within Four Seasons’ Azure Databricks Lakehouse environment. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people management and cross‑functional collaboration to ensure enterprise data assets are reliable, performant, and analytics‑ready.
This role leads the migration of legacy data systems into the modern Lakehouse platform, oversees the development of reusable ingestion and transformation frameworks, and ensures strong alignment with enterprise architecture, data governance, and security standards. A critical component of the role involves collaborating with Data Science, Analytics COE, Enterprise Architecture, Governance, and Business teams to enable trusted reporting, forecasting, and AI‑driven insights.
This role is based at the Four Seasons Corporate Office, Toronto, reporting to the Director, Data Engineering – Data Foundations, with limited travel. The role involves extensive interaction with internal technical and business stakeholders, as well as vendors and delivery partners.
What You’ll Be Doing
Data Engineering & Platform Delivery
Lead a team of data engineers responsible for building, migrating, and optimizing batch and streaming data pipelines across Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Informatica, and SQL environments.
Drive end‑to‑end data migration projects, including discovery, profiling, mapping, conversion, validation, reconciliation, cutover, and hypercare support.
Establish and operationalize reusable ingestion, transformation, and validation frameworks aligned with enterprise engineering standards.
Implement CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated testing (unit, integration, data validation) with built‑in monitoring to meet defined SLAs and SLOs.
Partner with Data Science and Analytics teams to deliver curated, model‑ready datasets that support BI, forecasting, and AI use cases.
Monitor and optimize pipeline performance, reliability, and Azure cost utilization across compute, storage, and workflows.
Data Architecture, Governance & Quality
Apply enterprise data architecture and engineering standards to ensure consistency, scalability, and governance across all data solutions.
Embed data quality, metadata management, lineage, and cataloging practices into engineering workflows using tools such as Informatica IDQ and Unity Catalog.
Lead data modeling activities (conceptual, logical, and physical) aligned with the Unified Data Model.
Partner with Data Governance and Business stakeholders to support stewardship, certification, and trusted enterprise reporting.
Contribute to solution design reviews, technical documentation, and architectural decision‑making for enterprise initiatives.
Azure Platform Administration & Optimization
Oversee Azure platform administration, including subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, tagging, policies, and security baselines.
Ensure platform reliability, security, and compliance through proactive monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and policy enforcement.
Optimize cloud spend through cost management practices, right‑sizing, budgets, and performance tuning.
Enable application, data, and analytics teams by providing a stable, secure, and well‑documented Azure platform foundation.
Leadership, Delivery & Collaboration
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing data engineering team, balancing hands‑on technical engagement with people leadership.
Coordinate delivery across internal teams, vendors, and system integrators to ensure high‑quality execution of enterprise data initiatives.
Translate architectural strategy into executable plans, milestones, and deliverables.
Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
Promote continuous improvement through retrospectives, optimization of engineering practices, and adoption of emerging technologies.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
5–8+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong hands‑on experience in Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
Proven experience leading data engineering teams and delivering complex, enterprise‑scale data initiatives.
Deep expertise in Azure data and analytics services (ADF, Databricks, Synapse, Cosmos DB, Functions, Logic Apps).
Strong experience with Lakehouse architectures and modern data engineering patterns.
Advanced SQL skills and strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, or Scala.
Experience with Informatica and data governance platforms.
Familiarity with Power BI delivery and certified semantic models.
Experience working within Agile delivery environments and enterprise platforms.
Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and governance requirements.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000
This role will be a Hybrid working model, which will require 3 days per week at our temporary 20 York Mills Road, Toronto, Ontario location with travel, as needed, to our the Four Seasons Corporate Office located at 1165 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario #LI-Hybrid
