The Manager of Cyber Risk Management owns the definition, execution, and continuous evolution of enterprise security threat management technology capabilities. This role is critical to advancing Delta Dental's cyber defense capabilities into a future state defined by automation, AI augmentation, and rapid, effective response. The manager will lead the engineering team responsible for the platforms, data, analytics, and automation capabilities that protect the organization by ensuring cyber threats are identified and neutralized before business impact occurs. This role is responsible for defining and executing the technology roadmap that enables scalable, resilient, and effective threat detection and response capabilities.

This leader pursues measurable security outcomes across people, processes, and technology. The role collaborates closely with the Security Operations and Incident Response teams, delivering high-quality services and capabilities that support threat detection and response efforts.

This individual will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for detection engineering, platform implementation and administration (e.g., SIEM, EDR, NDR, IPS), and agentic and deterministic automation and orchestration.

Responsibilities
  • Own and execute the cyber threat management engineering strategy, driving transformation toward highly automated, AI-augmented cyber operations.
  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable roadmaps, aligning team priorities with enterprise cyber risk management goals.
  • Drive measurable improvements in operational effectiveness and reduction of risk impact.
  • Ensure platform resilience, scalability, and alignment with evolving attack surfaces (cloud, SaaS, AI-driven environments).
  • Champion the continued adoption of AI, machine learning, and automation to enable autonomous investigation and response capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation to improve cyber defense capabilities.
  • Mentor team members to develop expertise in emerging threats, AI-enabled security, and modern cyber defense techniques.
  • Partner with Incident Response, Enterprise Architecture, and other stakeholders to design and execute effective security measures.
  • Define and track key performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of risk event management services.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional experience in cybersecurity, cyber risk management, or security operations, with at least 1 year in leadership roles.
  • Strong expertise in cyber engineering and security operations disciplines, including detection engineering, platform engineering and operations, and Security Automation, Orchestration, and Response (SOAR).
  • Proven experience leading transformation initiatives involving people, processes, and technology.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise security platforms such as SIEM, EDR, NDR, SOAR, and cloud security tools.
  • Experience applying automation, orchestration, and AI/ML to cybersecurity operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Lead large-scale engineering and operational capabilities.
    • Build and manage high-performing technical teams.
    • Align technical capabilities with business risk and outcomes.
    • Drive continuous improvement using metrics and performance insights.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technical cybersecurity roles with 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Experience implementing AI-driven or highly automated security operations.

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. 
Pay Grade 25. $142,077 - $307,899
