This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

The Transfer Stage – Cryogenic Fluids and Main Propulsion team is seeking an exceptional technical leader to manage the fluids analysis team along with the technical design and a portion of the hardware teams.  In this role, you will lead a talented team of 6-8 engineers and contractors through the full lifecycle of spacecraft propulsion systems, from concept and design through testing, integration, build, and operational phases of the Transfer Stage.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a fluids systems engineering and analysis team to deliver high-performance fluids and propulsion deliverables for the Transfer Stage vehicles, ensuring alignment with mission objectives while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Lead analysis collaboration with NASA.
  • Lead Verification and Validation activities leading up to and through vehicle certifications.
  • Define, specify, and flow down information to help Responsible Engineers to develop hardware.  You will work closely with customers, suppliers, and Blue Origin groups.
  • Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a team of ~6-8 direct reports, focusing on their professional development through coaching, performance reviews, and routine one-on-one conversations.
  • Develop and manage robust plans, product roadmaps, and key operating metrics for technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Provide technical leadership, monitor progress, and communicate updates to the Main Propulsion System Single Threaded Leader (STL).
  • Ensure the efficient and effective design, manufacture, procurement, testing, qualification, and delivery of the Main Propulsion Subsystem.
  • Work with STL to manage the technical configuration, customer deliverables, and address scope changes and solving emergent issues that impact program success.
  • Foster technical expertise and high standards within the team, reporting to the STL.
  • 80% of time will be product ownership and technical deliverables while the other 20% will be functional management.

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, lead teams
  • 8+ years related technical experience
  • In depth understanding of fluids and mechanical engineering principles
  • Track record of delivering integrated products, on schedule and within budget
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Familiarity with agile project management

  • 5+ years managing/leading technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching/mentoring employees
  • Demonstrated ability to provide cost and schedule leadership of a team

Base Pay Range for:

CO applicants is $138,181.00 - $193,453.05 WA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
