About the role

In the role of Manager of Creative Development, you will report to the Senior Manager of Strategy & Creative Development.

The anime industry is evolving, and you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to it during an exciting time of growth and change. As the Manager of Creative Development, you will support the team by conducting research and gathering insights that help inform strategic decisions about anime investments, audience development, and content creation. You'll track fandom and viewership trends, analyze the anime and broader entertainment landscape, and turn findings into clear, actionable insights. Working with internal research teams, you'll support strategic planning around content formats, audience targets, and new IP. You'll also help evaluate projects and supporting creative development with Japanese partners to help shape anime that resonates with the rich range of anime viewers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with provided tools and internal teams to research anime titles, adjacent media, and the broader entertainment landscape to stay ahead of content and audience trends.
  • Create reports, presentations, and data visualizations that clearly communicate research insights to stakeholders.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to share information and strategies, and to source insights that can shape our content strategy.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, trackers, and databases to organize research data for the Content Strategy team.
  • Evaluate pitches and project proposals, providing recommendations to acquire or produce content to further Crunchyroll's business goals, grounded in data and industry analysis.
  • Research and support the evaluation of new business opportunities related to IP sources and emerging anime formats.

In the role of Manager of Creative Development, you will report to the Senior Manager Strategy & Creative Development.

About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 3 plus years of experience in development, programming, acquisitions, or media research.
  • A passion for anime, entertainment, and storytelling.
  • Familiarity with a range of related content categories, which could include manga, lightnovels and web novels, webtoons, donghua, K-dramas/Asian dramas, K-pop, genrefilm and TV, and gaming (console, PC, mobile, and social games).
  • The ability to present complex data and ideas through presentations and memos.
  • Highly organized and systems-oriented with experience managing trackers and workflows
  • Able to distill creative concepts into clear assessments
  • Upper intermediate (equivalent to CEFR B2) Japanese or Korean proficiency (spoken and written) would be an added bonus!
About the Team

The Content Strategy & Development team defines what content is needed to fuel Crunchyroll's global growth - and how to unlock the creative and strategic pathways that bring the content to our platform. As a member of our team you will answer our most consequential and sophisticated content questions - collaborating with internal stakeholders as well as external partners to deliver on the wants and needs of the overarching anime fandom.

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees. Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

Three in-person days per week. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the company-wide days for ALL team members to be in the office, and individuals may choose to come in more if they please.
