The Underwriting and Client Complaint Management Centre Administrative Department is responsible for supporting profitable growth and client experience by using underwriting strategies to optimize insurance risk management and by playing an active role in the development of personal lines insurance solutions. The corporate underwriting teams are responsible for overseeing risk segmentation, in collaboration with the actuarial teams, to actively contribute to the profitable growth of the Property and Casualty Insurance Executive Division. The teams are responsible for risk engineering for the different insurance solutions and ensuring consistency between their various components (coverage, underwriting, pricing, claims and systems, process). The insurance solutions developed must also promote operational excellence, while respecting the architecture of our product offerings. Finally, the teams define, develop and update coverage and underwriting rules that are simple and accessible, and that meet client needs. They also establish the purpose of insurance in a context of profitable growth and client satisfaction. The Corporate Underwriting Leader will be responsible for the corporate underwriting function mandated with Personal Lines business nationally for all distributions at DGIG (Direct, Group, and Exclusive Agent). More specifically, you will be required to:

Lead and oversee a team of advisors by providing clear guidance, coaching, and support to ensure the team effectively maintains, updates, and develops insurance wordings and documents, validates legal insurance documents, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and handles all provincial filings where applicable. This includes creating new coverages, business rules, and leveraging applications to meet emerging client needs while supporting profitability.

Continually monitor the existing business and market trends and environment to ensure that coverages and products continue to evolve to meet the needs of our members and clients, while maintaining adequate controls. Continually improve the member/client experience by gathering feedback and suggestions and identifying areas for improvement

Oversee the creation and maintenance of pre-configured recommended insurance package offers. Identify and establish insurance risks and intentions on a portfolio basis, promoting their understanding and application by operational sectors.

Ensure an expert role in underwriting within the organization by advising partners, contributing to the development of skills and ensuring the transfer of knowledge to other departments of the organization

Liaise and represent Desjardins with decision-making, industry and regulatory bodies that set industry rules. Influence stakeholders regarding insurance products and practices.

Evaluate, develop and engage our employees and lead the management of performance by effectively balancing the utilization of Desjardins behaviours and the execution of our business objectives.

What you bring to the table

Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, administration or a related field

A minimum of ten years of relevant experience including four experience in a management role

Holds Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or working towards completion

Experience in product management in the insurance industry
