Position Description

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity within PIMCO's Legal & Compliance organization, sitting at the intersection of Investments, Trading, Legal, Compliance, and Technology.

The ACE Guidelines team is responsible for translating complex client mandates, regulatory requirements, and internal investment policies into actionable compliance rules that support portfolio management and trading activities across PIMCO's global investment platform. ACE (Automated Compliance Engine) is PIMCO's proprietary investment compliance platform used to implement and monitor investment guidelines, restrictions, and portfolio requirements.

As a leader within the team, you will partner closely with Portfolio Managers, Trading, Client Servicing, Legal, Product, and Portfolio Compliance teams to interpret investment guidelines, support investment decision-making, and ensure effective governance across client portfolios. You will lead a team of guideline specialists while serving as a key escalation point for complex client, regulatory, and investment-related matters.

This is a business-facing, trading-facing, player-coach role that combines leadership, technical expertise, and broad exposure to PIMCO's investment platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team responsible for investment guideline implementation and governance.

  • Interpret and implement complex client mandates, investment restrictions, and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner directly with Portfolio Managers and Trading teams to provide guidance on guideline interpretation and investment-related matters.

  • Collaborate with Client Servicing, Legal, Product, Portfolio Compliance, and Operations teams to operationalize investment discretion language and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee the implementation and governance of compliance rules within PIMCO's proprietary ACE platform.

  • Act as a key escalation point for complex guideline matters, including client-specific restrictions, UCITS requirements, and regulatory interpretations.

  • Support interactions with clients, custodians, depositaries, and regulators where required.

  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational efficiencies across the guidelines function.

  • Ensure consistency, scalability, and best practices across guideline implementation and governance processes.

Requirements

Essential

  • 7+ years' experience in investment compliance, portfolio compliance, trade compliance, investment operations, investment risk, or a related asset management function.

  • Experience interpreting, implementing, monitoring, or overseeing investment guidelines, restrictions, and client mandates within an investment management environment.

  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products, and investment management regulations, including UCITS and/or AIFMD.

  • Experience partnering with Portfolio Managers, Trading, Legal, Compliance, and client-facing teams to resolve complex guideline, regulatory, or investment-related matters.

  • Previous people management, leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills coupled with a hands-on, player-coach approach.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with compliance monitoring platforms such as Charles River, Aladdin, Bloomberg AIM, Sentinel, or similar systems.

  • Experience supporting fixed income, multi-asset, derivatives, or alternative investment strategies.

  • Exposure to compliance rule implementation, automation, process improvement, or technology-enabled controls.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, Bloomberg, or business intelligence tools.

  • CFA, CAIA, MBA, or other relevant industry qualifications.

  • Additional European language skills, particularly German.

  • Bachelor's degree (Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience in investment compliance, asset management, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of global equity and fixed income markets, including derivatives
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis

  • CFA designation (or progress), MBA, or JD
  • Additional language skills (e.g., German)
